Spoiler!!!!

Somebody's gonna hurt someone
before the night is through
Somebody's gonna come undone.
There's nothin' we can do.
Everybody wants to touch somebody
if it takes all night.
Everybody wants to take a little chance,
Make it come out right.

There's gonna be a heartache tonight,
a heartache tonight, I know.
There's gonna be a heartache tonight, I know.
Lord, I know.

I'm watching curling. So are you supposed to knock the other team's rock out? And they're just sliding across the ice? Is it like shuffle board?

get the most amount of rocks closest to the "house" or middle of the circles. only the rocks closer than ALL of your opponents rocks can score.

Kinda sorta. You score based on how many more rocks you have closer to the center than anything the other team managed; it has to at least be touching the red ring to be eligible to score. The last rock thrown is called the hammer; the hammer goes to whichever team was scored on most recently (so you want to score at least two when you have it).

When a Norwegian team has the hammer, it's called the Mjolnir.

I just read the basic rules on Wikipedia... I'm kind of intrigued now. I didn't realize there was that much skill involved with the sweeping.

Yeah, I've seen them use the sweeping to curve the stone around another.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm already over curling.  Too slow, too confusing, and way too much of it.  How can they have curling events for almost the entire 2 weeks?  It would be better if they were all elimination rounds.

This is Shaun White's moment! He canceled Slopestyle just for this. There is no way he would embarrass his country by bring home a silver or bronze.

BLASPHEMY but really, hey, some events just interest people more than others. Personally, I have to virtually drag people to the racewalking feeds when the Summer Olympics come around. (I also manage to get them sucked in every time once I've clued them in on what it is they're looking for.)

I've found this to be true for many sports, ever since I started to get interested in them back around 11 years ago. I sat down with a friend and he explained football... I've been hooked ever since, and started getting into a lot of other sports.

I think that what I like the most is that it's always different. And often totally unpredictable. I like that.

Oh, this obviously isn't a spoiler of anything, but India has been reinstated to the IOC with immediate effect. All Indian athletes who haven't completed their competition schedule may immediately begin wearing the Indian colors again.

Maybe it bothers me because they never do what I think they should do.  They never listen to me!  :)  I still watch it, but I haven't been able to get sucked in by it yet.  I want more snowboarding and freestyle skiing.  Or pretty much any event that would kill me if I attempted it.

Yeah, I grew up in the deep south and had no idea about hockey.  A friend who had played took me to a Bruins game, first row against the glass.  It was really cool.

Yep, and now a piece on  female hockey player. So apparently CBC is just as bad.

2014-02-11 08:06:45 PM
Actually, you know what I seek out?

The footage on the livestreams of the fringe competitors. The early heats. The barely-qualified-to-the-field, the guys who are in just to get another flag in the Parade of Nations, the people who are just generally towards the back of the pack. No chance at a medal, little chance of quality TV time, probably the only time they'll ever be there. I like watching those guys, the flags that those events don't normally see, and seeing them get their couple minutes in front of the world. The Austrian figure skater, the Japanese hockey team, the Romanian speedskater, the warm-weather-nation anything.

The human interest story NBC showed last night about the Canadian skier and his brother was jacked from CBC.  Only NBC cut out the part where they interviewed the brother.

The husband watches with me, and gets into it, but the kids think I'm crazy. And of course, they've been at home today, and will be all week because of the snowpocalypse.

I did catch my son watching speed skating of his own accord, but he kept cheering for Canada. I guess that's okay.

When your son comes out of the Canadian closet, like that, you need to be supportive and tell him you'll love him no matter what.

Oh yeah, my kids are totally fed up with me hogging the family room tv, like there aren't others they can use.  My husband watches some of it, but he won't sit and watch with me because he's "too cool" to care about anything but curling and hockey.  Idiot.
