I thought Texas would never sink lower than Ted Cruz, but apparently they're well on their way to proving me wrong.

Truth, facts, documentation, well known liberal bias and such.

In 1977, a young man who would later serve in Congress was charged with possession of Valium in Madison Heights, Mich.

In 1995, during his first term in the U.S. House from a Houston-area district, Steve Stockman conceded that he'd had many brushes with the law, including one weekend jail stint that nearly cost him two years in prison because a girlfriend had slipped some Valium pills into his underwear to help him pass the time.

And yet he says he never committed a felony.  I can't quite decide how to translate his denial.  I'm torn between "valium isn't a black-people drug, so it's not a felony" and "biatch set me up".

It's almost as if there was some way to quickly and conveniently find background information on a politician.  Who knew?

Probably something along the lines of "Valium is a prescription drug, so it isn't as bad"

I GUESS his argument is going to be (and since I'm on my iPhone and can't look up Texas records) that he was not actually charged with or convicted of the drug charges, for whatever reason (money, lack of evidence); so therefore it NEVER HAPPENED.

It looked like just one guy from what I read. And it is kind of amusing that his response to Stockman being outed as a liar is "Obama did drugs too but got away with it because he's black" and "Planet Fitness membership prices are going up, thanks Obama"

Why did the farker lie? Its Valium, not even marijuana. There was no need to do so. "Oh I was arrested selling a prescription drug meant for bi-polar people" would get more of a laugh. This showed he had no integrity.

The only thing I could think is that it wasn't "felony possession" but just a misdemeanor. Also, it appears that maybe he was just "charged" vs. "convicted".

Words mean something, but it still should be plastered everywhere that he was arrested, and charged for possession of drugs, with the clarification that he wasn't arrested FOR possession.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the state ultimately declined to prosecute, so since there was no conviction, there was no adjudication on the facts?  So all they are doing now is repeating accusations that were previously made (but never legally proven) against him?  Even though he DID FREAKING ADMIT IT in an interview 2 decades ago?

I got nothin'.

If you click through to the other articles, he was reporting to weekend jail on ANOTHER CHARGE.  It sounds like, taking all of this fragmented crap over the years together, his girlfriend put the valium in his shorts so he could smuggle it into the jail to make the time more bearable. He got caught getting searched on the way in apparently.

This is the part that weirds me out. I understand it on one level - I know that people have been smuggling drugs in their tighty whities for years - but I always figured that was the sort of thing one typically did for one's self. I'm intrigued by the idea of someone else slipping contraband into one's shorts.

Between this, Rand Paul's contradictory ramblings and Ted Cruz insistence that Obama and Harry Reid caused the government shutdown, reality for republicans has become what they solipsisticaly decide it is.

See, that's the part where he's a scumbag. Because he knows full well that his girlfriend didn't put it in his shorts, but when he got caught with it, he had to blame her or take the blame himself. If he admits it was his, he gets more time. If he blames her, he can wiggle out of it and they aren't going to put her in jail for it either. Granted, she's forever known as the girl who put valium into Stockman's undies, but what's a little character assassination between friends?

You're getting close to what I was imagining, but I was thinking more that it was his Canadian girlfriend who did it. You wouldn't know her.
