Why the dumbass tag, dumbass? It's his money to blow as he sees fit.

Yeah, because Yankees fans are so concerned with wanting their players to be average schlubs just like them. We've got good ol' Joe Sixpack out there at shortstop and Johnny Lunchpail playing first base.

True, though it seems odd to charter such a big plane for only five people.  Wouldn't chartering a Gulfstream V or something like that be less money plus more luxurious?  Do smaller jets like that just not have the range to go from Tokyo to NYC nonstop?

Gulfstreams have a tough time making in from Japan to NY, subby.

And I'm a Sox fan. Blow it how you want to.

Why does a guy who's freakishly good at baseball who just signed a contract for $150 million need to pretend he's a regular guy?

The plane, which can seat 200, brought a slightly smaller party to the Big Apple - Tanaka, his wife, his brown toy poodle and three other people, according to multiple reports.

That's just stupid... You know why it's stupid? Because these 5 people and this toy poodle could have occupied the space available on a small farking business jet and he STILL could have arrived "in the best of form". This just screams stupidity. It's like renting a 10,000 square ft. house for two people(That like each other). You're going to spend the majority of the time hanging out together, while 9,500 sq. ft. of that house sits unused. What a dipshiat.

And a No. 3 pitcher can pull in $155 million now? What a joke.

Maybe the smaller jet couldn't make it on one tank?

With only two stops on an 15-hour total flight time! I mean, who wouldn't want to fly from Japan to Honolulu, get off the plane, go through customs, get on another plane, fly to LA, get off the plane, get on another plane, and fly to New York? Sounds like a great way to spend the day. I'm sure you'd arrive in "the best of form" after three flights in a day that crossed your sleep cycle twice.

Or you can charter a jet that costs he same to him that a $500 flight costs you or me.

No, that was last year.  This year Can't Stay Healthy and Wishes He Was as Healthy as Can't Stay Healthy are supposed to be back.  So Joe Sixpack might not play regularly until June but Johnny Lunchpail will be starting by Tax Day.

\Do Carlos Beltran and Alfonso Soriano own 1B gloves or will they be borrowing one from Kelly Johnson when a lefty starts?

The best part about being rich seems to be that you get to spend money on sh*t you don't need without having to worry about affording things you do need.

That, and you get a bunch of free shiat, like a dozen pair of $200 sunglasses or a $48,000 swag bag at the Oscars... Ironic that once you're rich enough to afford shiat like this, you get it for free...

That's what I was thinking. A buddy of mine does custom cabinetry work for planes like the Gulfstreams and was telling me recently about a G650 they redid. Even though the previous owner only had it for a year with not many hours on it they completely gutted and redid the inside per the new owner's specs.

Here is the cost of chartering a flight from Tokyo to New York. The G650 that people are talking about is 196,387 pounds. There are several other types of planes listed and the all are either more or about the same as he paid, and I doubt they had the space to ship all of the stuff he supposedly shipped.

Regular people celebrate first day at a new job by stopping for IHOP. He rents a jet for him and his family and friends. Given what he just got, I might do that too.

It was JAL, right? Why does anyone think he paid for it? Nice ad in both the home market and NYC...

Further, having never been in a private jet, I do kinda wonder if First Class on a JAL jumbo is actually more comfortable, esp if there aren't any unwashed masses crowdin' up the joint...

Kick dogs such in general. Except for those dammed Yorkies, those things are frigging adorable. They scare the shiat out of me when they come darting out from under a potato chip though...

I'm OK with Japanese people in general though, but they are roughly th e size of a toy poodle, I'll give you that.

I'd imagine there would only be one layover necessary in sunny warm Anchorage Alaska since the most direct route takes you up near the arctic circle. Still, who cares.

Point me towards the charter private jet that will take me nonstop Tokyo->NY. Oh wait, it got posted upthread, and costs near-as-makes-no-difference to what he paid for a 787 with fifty times the cargo capacity.

Also, I wasn't trying to WK- I was trying to point out that you biatching about it was stupid, and it is.

I will say this - $195,000 to charter a farking 787 is a lot less than I'd have thought it would be.

Just doing some quick and dirty lookups, a non-stop first class ticket from Tokyo to NYC is $12,714.  There are 42 first class seats on an Air Japan 787, so that's $533,988 right there.

The cheapest non-stop coach flight I could find is $4,164, and that 787 has 144 coach seats, so that's another $599,616.  Altogether a 787 making that run full of paying passengers would be bringing in $1,133,604, so he's getting a huge discount.

Now sure, not all regular flights are full, and not everyone pays full price for the ticket when you take into account air mile upgrades and whatnot, but he's still getting it at a huge discount.

Also, since they presumably wouldn't have taken that charter at a loss, it really sheds a light on how much the airlines are gouging people on fares.
