Bullshiat.

Damn near every developer wants their game to be addictive. It's how they make money.

I'm also going with

$50,000 a day is close to what Drew's bringing in, and you don't see him crying in his beer over it.

I have an idea for a game.  I wonder if Fappy Birds would bring in $50,000 a day?

How sorry are you? Are you sorry enough to spend thousands of dollars on an iPhone with Flappy Birds installed?

Ah, I had no idea, I use Firefox & Adblock, so I just got the game without anything else.

There is something evil about that game. I played it for about 15 minutes and got a high score of 11 and then when I recognized the signs of addiction beginning to form I promptly deleted it.

I still feel the urge to get that damn bird through the pipes and it's been over a week.

Man do I wish I knew how to create really simple yet addictive video game apps.

Just one flappy bird - with a 1 year run of ad revenue and you are set for life.

I have to give it up for the people that can code, I should have learned how - and if you can code and aren't thinking about how to develop a cheap addictive ap you are a moron

I'm betting he recieved thousands of emails from copyright trolls and bottom feeders. Too much pressure for a one man operation. I'm willing to bet some of them were from other popular app companies. That or his money flow started effecting him in a negative way. Mo money mo problems.

If you have it installed it isn't going away.

It is ridiculously difficult for such a simple game though, but that somehow makes you want to play it more.

So far my high is 17.

No such thing.

I am nice to others as much because it makes me feel good as to actually help.

So much so that if I didn't feel good I often would not inconvenience myself to help.

So much for his possible career at Zynga. "Wait - you created a game that was addicting people, and that scared you, so you withdrew the game?"

Meanwhile, folks with fewer scruples have already put up clones...

Mobile "games" are bad and the people that make them and play them should feel bad.

The glorious PC gaming master race knows better - pretty much all of these "games" were on Newgrounds 15 years ago.

I'm only half-trolling.

The problem is the cost per user is becoming too high for indie developers to develop on mobile platforms anymore (which for awhile it was a great platform to break out in).  The problem being that you don't know if you'll get enough return on your investment to make it profitable.  Consoles have always been expensive to develop for.  Steam is the best, but now there is a user voted greenlight process (not that the other platforms don't have internal queues).  Of course to make bank you need micro transactions, which you would mostly do on mobile and again that just isn't affordable for most indies anymore.  The publisher share is ~30%, the cost of hosting is $0.05 - $0.20 per user per hour, there are new install costs, marketing, etc.  Sure some people might get lucky, but most people will end up taking a net loss from developing on mobile anymore.

This guy probably just made this as a gimmick to attract attention to his other games anyway.  It's the new indie thing, make some controversial game that rips off/mocks something else, get a bunch of foot traffic to your website, get people to notice your other stuff hopefully, then take down the potential copyright infringement game hoping that the attention will propel your career as a legitimate developer.  I can't say it isn't effective sometimes.

I don't think he ought to try to dictate people's behavior with regard to an addictive product, but meh, I'm American. We deserve our unalienable right to make dumb life choices and such as like.

Already downloaded it, so meh.

PillsHere: Sure some people might get lucky, but most people will end up taking a net loss from developing on mobile anymore.

Unless you just skip the whole ad supported and freemium thing and charge upfront. People have pretty much had it with having to pay to get stuff in a game that claims to be for free. And the ads are another thing people are sick of. If you make a game that doesn't require any transactions in game, you can forget hosting as it just needs to sit on the Google Play and/or iStore servers so people can download it.

Honestly given his reaction to press about the game since it got big I think it's more that he's just really shy and is uncomfortable with the amount of attention it received.  He made a significant chunk of ad revenue already and can walk away.

Or this is one hell of a PR scheme by attempting to raise demand due to unavailability.
