FTA:  "Many of the explorers do not even take the precaution of wearing a helmet."

I'm all in favor of basic safety precautions, but if you take a header off a three hundred foot antenna, a helmet will only be useful for scooping up your remains.

Is that Chernobyl?

Yep. That's the Elephant's Foot being photographed.

How did that man live long enough to hand off the camera?

A helmet isn't going to save you when you fall several hundred feet but it can when the pipe you grabbed onto turns out to be rusted through and falls on your head. Or when you're in a poorly lit space and you run into a beam at head level that you didn't notice. Or a thousand other scenarios.

Damn.  This is one of the best photographs I've ever seen.  Amazing job with the light, color, and lines.  I could only dream to take a picture like that.

So, near as I can figure, this room is divided in two by a giant mirror, which means that both the man and the walkway he is standing on are vampires.

The only time I ever did any sort of urban exploring was when I snuck up into the Chrysler building to check
out the remnants of the Cloud Club.  In that case, though, the worst that would have happened to me was
that I would have been arrested.

Article about the Cloud Club with pics (not taken by me, alas).

Not that the USA is immune to boneheaded errors, but don't the Russians seem to have a certain way of REAAAALLLLLYYY farking shiat up? There just seems to be a certain coldness to the culture. I am sure there are lovely Russians and positive elements, but from all accounts, it just seems like a desolate place full of despair.

That's called the Elephant's Foot.  When the reactor fuel melted it poured down the inside of a huge pipe and oozed into that shape.  That's suit he's wearing can offer no protection from radiation, all it does is keep the dust off him so they don't have to scrub his skin off when he's done for the day.

Nice. Awesome pictures, life experience, exploring the unknown, and facing danger. All the things people should be about. People who wet their panties over the danger aspect should be ashamed.
