A friend who lives there sent me the link. He's terrified. Media crackdown has been severe. If you know people there please get a hold of them.

Are all those round wounds from rubber bullets?  That's got to hurt something fierce.

I guess censorship.  There's *nothing* in Reuters, Al Jazeera, or anything...other than they arrested some protesters, but that's it.

OK, that's what I had found...doesn't mention how violent it is until the 2nd section.  *shrug*

It's possible that these are relatively new developments.  I'm not surprised the American media is uninterested, but I would think BBC or Al Jazeera would be all over it.

¡Jesu Christo!  Some of those pics are pretty nauseating . . .

Maduro, a 51-year-old former bus driver and union activist who has pinned his presidency on maintaining Chavez's legacy, says extreme right-wing politicians backed by "imperialist" collaborators want to bring him down by undemocratic means.

Well, driving a bus does make one qualified to drive a nation, doesn't always mean its for the best, tho

These aren't Communists who are attempting to remove the right of free speech, they are socialists, and it is causing a revolution.

The US is not always the hand that moves, our Gov't is too incompetent to do simple math and you expect us to be able to spark revolution for oil?

Cognitive Dissonance must give you migraines.

2014-02-11 01:19:46 PM
No, man. That's just imperialist powers trying to stir up shiat again.

There's nothing wrong with skipping a meal for a few weeks, it's not like they have enough toilet paper to wipe anyway.

So, Madouro celebrated Chavez's coup attempt 20 years ago. I'm sorry, what? Then again, I've read reports of the guy trying to deify Chavez. Seeing his ghost in a new tunnel, that sort of thing.

Yes, we're the only nation who "needs" oil. Your intellectual prowess knows no bounds.

"The protests have been sporadic and seldom drawn crowds of more than a few hundred, though activists were hoping for bigger numbers at a march planned for Wednesday in Caracas."-Reuters

If they do overthrow Maduro just wait until the pro-chavistas and bolivarians stage a counter-coup.  This "protest" is being orchestrated by the wealthy and it will not last.

2014-02-11 01:21:23 PM
I was under the impression that, while acknowledging some problems, the people of Venezuela strongly supported their socialist government.

2014-02-11 01:21:25 PM
No, no. We were going after vuvuzelas. Come on, people. Christ, you can't organize a revolution these days for shiat

The fact that the state sells billions in oil and can't keep toilet paper of the shelves. It's a resource curse, the financing of the state is achieved without regard to the actual welfare of it's constituents.
