bighairyguy: Republic Airlines is still a thing?  Is Piedmont still around too?

Yeah, the only time I had heard of Republic Airlines until today was Tom Paxton's song reaming them out for breaking one of his guitars.  I assumed they had gone the way of Branif (like the song says).

95629: Republic has singlehandedly destroyed thousands of pilots careers.  Lots of divorces, bankruptcies, etc.  They've screwed their pilots real bad over the last few years.  Forced moves across the country and back again, paying their first officers $20-30k/yr.  Buying out other airlines (Midwest/Frontier) and then imposing new contracts on those pilots, etc.

He absolutely shouldn't have done it.  But, for those asking why... well... that airline is full of a bunch of mad pissed off pilots.  Throw in a little personal crazy and you have this.

But remember, even writing down your revenge fantasy will cost you your house, savings, job, and five years of your life.

/well, when that fantasy involves a rich person.

Coconice: CeroX: Facing 5 years in prison for writing a strongly worded letter to a CEO...

There are convicted rapists walking the streets, first time drug offenders doing 9 months, Alcoholics with 15 DUIs still behind the wheel, and countless other legal atrocities, but screw with a CEO and you'll find yourself in the box faster than meth-head on commissary day...

This jumped out at me, too.

I wonder, though, what type of sentence he should realistically expect.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this sounds more like 1000 hours of community service, a $2500 fine, and court ordered therapy to me.

I see I was late to the "wtf, five years and bankruptcy for words directed at a rich man?" crowd.

They operate Shuttle America, Republic, Chautauqua, Frontier and maybe more.

CEO is a real bible thumper.

If he gets a jury made up of airline passengers, he'll be free by lunchtime.

They sold Frontier to the guy who used to run Spirit.

He should have just written a novel in which a pilot who flies for Bebublic Airlines kills the evil lizard person masquerading as the CEO. Then he could self-publish on Amazon and have no fear of the police reading it.

So, you start by slitting the eyelids and then move to the family....

/marvelous visuals aren't they?

95629: Outlaw2097: can we turn this into a regional airline pay crap wages thread?

/pay scale at republic
//good luck posting bond with these figures
///take the hourly rate and put three zeros behind it...that is annual pay

Pilots only get paid for hours they're actually flying.  So those hourly wages look a lot better than they actually are.

At the average, guaranteed pay of 75hrs/mo, the highest paid first officer/copilot at republic is making $33,300/year.  That even applies to someone who has been there for years and years.  New pilots are starting at $20,700/year.

Pilots say they love to fly so much, they'd do it for free.

Unfortunately for pilots, CEOs know this.

You can write down your fantasy all you want, and even read it to your peers. Printing it out and leaving it in five places where it'll definitely be found unexpectedly is different.
