geek_mars: Most Republicans don't follow Crist because it wouldn't benefit them. Crist is in a unique position. When he was governor he did well enough to be appreciated by his constituents, regardless of party. Since his exit from the Governor's office, the vacancy was filled with Rick Scott, who is unpopular with all but his cronies and the ultra-right, so much so that Floridians are ready to replace him with any qualified candidate who isn't outright evil. Crist is popular enough that it won't matter if there's an (R) or (D) behind his name when the other choice is Scott.I'm not sure of how many other places something like this could work. Wisconsin, maybe? Kansas?
