Huh. She lived in Woodside. 20 miles south of San Francisco. Had no idea.

On second thought, I'll have the Tom Collins instead.

Bah. I submitted this while incorporating two - count 'em - TWO of her movies in the headline.

Sad to hear about her dying though. She was a pretty remarkable woman. Something like 20 movies under her belt by the time she was 6 years old, plus a long career as a UN ambassador.

Godspeed, good lady.

/ note, I didn't say it was a better headline, just that it incorporated more movie titles.

That poor child is so rotund, when they cremate her, there'll be nothing left but cracklins.

/I don't know why I thought that wasn't the case.
/Child star in the black and white film era, guess I presumed the cocaine and hard liquor did her in years ago.

While a lot of Farkers don't know about her and her movies, I enjoyed watching them as a kid on TV. Yeap, she was a little bit before my time and yours. But she was a really good child star who grew up to be a decent adult.

If you got kids, throw a couple of her movies on for them. Include some Our Gang and Laurel and Hardy too.

Her autobiography was a pretty entertaining read. She grew up being remarkably unscathed by all of the fame, and seems to have had no resentment that her parents blew all of her money before she reached adulthood.

It wasn't weird back then. My great grandmother got married when she was 13. Her husband was 23. That was in like 1915.

I like it!  It flows better and is poetic,a fitting end for a famous actress's life.  I think it's great, and that it incorporates two of her titles (gotta take your word and I do) is brilliant.

CSB:

My grandparents lived all over the world during the 70s, as my grandfather worked for the state department. His work in 1972 took them to Ghana about the time Shirley Temple arrived as ambassador. My grandmother grew up watching her and adoring her, so you can imagine how elated she was to meet her idol.

Grandma said her and Ms. Temple became friends there, sneaking off to go smoke in some quiet spot. Grandma said no one was supposed to know that Shirley Temple smoked, so they shared that time together I suppose, giggling over it.

This morning, millions worldwide are coming to grips with the fact that Shirley Temple wasn't already dead.

What I'm amazed at is that she was only 85. The bulk of her films were made in the 1930s!

No... your thinking of the liberal side of Hollywood. She was very active in Republican politics and was an ambassador to some country that I forget. A very smart, talented, classy lady.

Interestingly enough, Shirley Temple was the first white female to be shown dancing with an African American on screen. Also, sometimes referred to as the first interracial couple of Hollywood.

Bill Robinson in the Little Colonel (1935).

I'll take useless movie trivia for 200, Alex.
