Well, not just tragic, but high octane nightmare fuel. The girl literally drown in human waste, and was quite aware of what was going on.

It's not that uncommon, actually. You get a few hundred deaths a year in the United States where people fall into sinkholes or into old culverts or septic systems that had been paved over and/or the concrete covering them fails, and they drown in decades old human waste or the remains of such.

The worst thing is if you fall into one that has a high dissolved gas content - at least in an open cistern you could tread poop until you got rescued, but in an aerated system or in a high-dissolved gas system, you are heavier than the medium around you and no matter how much you thrash, you're going to sink.

Watch your step.

Man that is horror movie stuff right there.  Were the others drinking and having sex when she drowned?  If so expect to be murdered by her feces covered specter.

Yeah, you need to watch your kids and understand the surrounding hazards.

I would not want to be the homeowner there...assuming it's a rental.

My friend had a "Learn Japanese" book where one of the sentences in the second chapter translates as:
"Grandmother has fallen in the septic tank, again."

Perhaps a little musical interlude would have been better than the Gallery....

A girl went missing this morning,
Her parents went into a fit,
Alas misfortune befell her,
She fell in a big tank of ... Shaving Cream....be nice and clean, shave every day and you'll always look keen.

They paid for the helicopter, they have to justify its use.

The owner of the property is responsible for maintaining it.

Oh for fark's sake! I had a long night at work and all I could think about is getting some much needed sleep today. Now I won't be able to close my eyes without seeing that ugly, disgusting, vile sewer monster.

I had an old house in Los Angeles and I hired a guy to dig an 18" deep trench across the lawn out to the garage.  A few hours into the job, I heard him shout.  I looked out the window and found him up to his armpits, scrambling out of a hole.  Turns out, a previous homeowner had updated the house by connecting to the sewer system, but instead of filling the old septic tank, had just tossed a piece of plywood over a hula hoop sized opening.  The wood was rotting and just waiting to give way.  I've wondered how much shiat I would've been in if I'd not been home and the guy had fallen in and drowned.

Probably just slightly less than him.

Those old steel septic tanks are nightmares, especially the can shaped ones with the tops that rust away. Imagine strolling across a lawn and being swallowed up by a pit of sewage. What a horrible way to die.

how terrible, that poor girl

So, in terms of short-term survivability, it is better to fall into a vat of human waste than into a vat of shaving cream?
