It still boggles my mind that the star on their team is Goran Dragic, and they're winning.

Jeff Hornacek has to be the runaway choice for coach of the year. He's also winning without Bledsoe at this point and turned Miles Plumlee into a legit NBA center. I can't think of another coach that has done a better job of maximizing his talent this season.

i said last week that Vegas  had the season over/under on wins at something like 18.5 or 19.5.  today, they're 30-20, 6th in the West.  30 wins would put them 3rd in the East.

Pretty remarkable.  18-19 for the year, Vegas said, and they've already hit 30 before the ASG.

Must be all those advanced stats!

Probably should have been an All Star.

Yet, if they get into a bit of a slump and Memphis catches them, they'll be out of the playoffs, while the barely over .400 Charlotte Bobcats get to play on.

Eh, Miles Plumlee had the skills to be a NBA backup back when he was at Duke but was rarely used for some reason.  I'm sure playing against Hibbert, West, and Mahinmi during practice for an entire season helped quite a bit as well.

I'm much more impressed by how effective Gerald Green, PJ Tucker, and the Morris twins have played.  I realize the Morris twins play a large amount of their minutes against backups, but they have looked impressive, especially since I thought both were busts.

.431 is barely above .400?  The Bobcats actually have played fairly well this season considering their 3 best players (walker, Jefferson, and Kidd-Gilchrist) have all been injured at some point during the season.  They are in desperate need for a quality SG though.

and to think back to the 2009ish, perhaps 2010 draft, when the Suns and the Warriors had a handshake agreement for - i forget the specifics - some kind of draft day deal for the Warriors to pick Curry and trade him to Phoenix or some shiat.  For reasons I don't recall, the deal fell through, the Warrirors reneged and the Suns were pissed.

i looked it up once and it was something like, the warriors "shook hands", so to speak, expecting Curry to be well off the board by the time they picked, or after the agreement, phoenix sent a different trade package, some shiat.  either way the Suns felt bamboozeld.

but yeah. Curry was quote unquote "supposed" t o be a Sun.

A 4 game losing streak and they are .400.... probably not playing that poorly, but, yes, it isn't that far from .400..... and I wasn't really picking on them, more just picking on the east's lameness as a whole vs. the west.

And they play hard.  It is a lovely thing.

The gap between the 8 seed in the West and the 9-10 is growing rapidly.

I think the success is indicative of something that I think everyone knows, really, for the most part sports journalists are completely full of shiat. I think it's also indicative of either Hornacek's pure talent as a coach, or indicative of the relatively low quality of coaches across the NBA (coughMikeBrowncough).

As outraged as I was about the Browns firing Chud after just one season, I'll be so happy when the Cavs do it to Mike Brown. The fact is that the Cavs should be a playoff lock in the East with the roster they have. They have an all-star PG. They have a guy that consistently puts up double-doubles in Tristan Thompson. They now have Luol Deng. They have Varejao when he's healthy. They have solid veterans like Jarrett Jack.

Sure, the under-performance of Waiters and the non-existence of Bennett has been a setback. Some of that falls on those players. But Mike Brown also deserves some blame for not getting more out of them. For failing to develop Irving (if anything, Irving looks like he's taken a step back this year). For failing to get any motivation out of Bynum. For failing to get the team to play together, and not stopping the nonsense with players fighting in practice. Mike Brown arguably has one of the top 6 most talented teams in the East (I'd rate the Heat, Bulls, Pacers, Knicks and Nets ahead of them. Everyone else is debatable), and the team is currently only better than 4 teams, good for 3 spots out of the 8 seed.

Growing rapidly?  It's 2 games.... and Memphis is a good team, I doubt they'll fall way back.

Now, 9 vs. 10 and below... granted, but, there are 9 teams at least 4-5 games above .500 in the West, which means one will be left out, vs. the east where barring Toronto or the Bulls going on a run, there will be only 2 teams more than 4-5 games above .500.

Oops. That is what I meant.
