Who?

Protip:  Even if you are Frank Darabont, don't try a period piece on a second rate network.  It's all extra cost for limited storytelling benefit on a new series.

Second protip: avoid series with big special effects budgets.  It leads to season two of The Walking Dead.

It stank. A lot.

Should've been at least pretty good.  Wasn't.

Simon Pegg was good, main female was good, but something just never jelled. And I thought they made the final episode knowing full well it was the last.

They could retool it and make it a comedy about fat guys, call it "Moob City".

YOULL BE BEGGIN ME TO GET CANCELLED!

The problem with Simon Pegg is that he's Simon Pegg. Ooh, look, he's a fanboy just like you. Same as Kevin Smith, same as the shameless Felicia Day. They're all opportunistic twats. The real genius behind Spaced was Jessica Hynes.

oh, that aired??

I remember seeing commercials that said 'go to our web site for more info' and laughing - thinking "well, surely when it gets closer they will actually tell me the day/time it is on since it looks pretty good" and i guess they never did.

Tip: if i am watching TV and you want me to watch something else, tell me then and there when it is on. There is virtually nothing interesting enough to make me go to your web site to find out.

It was apparently Peaky Blinders set in la in the 1920. Or Nradwalk Empire for people who can't follow complex plots.

They did everything right with the show except make it entertaining.

2014-02-11 07:47:40 AM
Was it one of those shows that paints itself into a corner the first episode ?

Then you have no interest watching it twist and turn trying to rewrite itself.

Ok, smith is an insufferable shiat, from what I hear.

Day I find insanely pandering, and can't stand. But, and I hate having to defend her, she apparently IS a real nerd, she's just socially functional and very driven. She was responsible for Dr horrible, in a large way, and she manages a decent amount of business and funding aquisition and things. She's slso fairly active in the 'nerd world'.

Simon Pegg I didn't know was supposed to be a nerd. He always just struck me as a cool person in interviews and stuff.

Yeah, that show was doomed because there is no way it could ever be as good as Boardwalk Empire.  Not even in the same universe.  Then again, Darabont isn't exactly known for making stuff for thinking fellers.

I thought it was supposed to be a mini series hmmmmmmmm

Or maybe it is because mob stories are kind of tired and boring. The Godfather and Goodfellas were good, but watching guidos kill people and run criminal enterprises gets old because we've seen it all before. That's what made Boardwalk Empire a chore to watch sometimes, because it feels like we've seen some of the major storylines again and again in other shows (although I did like how the Gyp season turned Al Capon showing up into a fark yeah moment).

With crime dramas you just need to do something a little different, and set the story outside of LA, New York, Chicago, or Jersey. That's partly what has made Breaking Bad, Justified, and True Detective so good, giving us new settings and new types of criminals instead of a copy of a copy of The Godfather.

Boardwalk Empire has production values. This felt like watching a gangster drama on a 4th rate network. Everything just felt.....cheap.

I refused to even give it a chance because of the stupid name. It reeked of being a Boardwalk Empire 'me too' piece and they couldn't even bother to spend more than a minute naming the piece of shiat.

It is the Vampire Academy of tv shows and needs to die.

Mob City? The name sucks. It would be like calling TWD "Zombie Town"

Don't cram all of your episodes in two nights in two weeks. How's about that?

2014-02-11 01:36:26 PM
It was a six episode miniseries. How does that get cancelled?

Don't click Deadline Hollywood links. Paid-for greenlights suck.

Never saw anything of Mob City except for the commercials, but if there's any chance this means he's freed up to make something happen with The Dark Tower, I'm all for it. He's one of the only people qualified to do it, in my opinion.

I guess she hits people differently...but I never thought she was pandering.  She always struck me as seriously goofy and awkward, so the stuff she did wasn't pandering to nerds, it was her really being nerdy.  It's why (per her explanation) she had a hard time getting acting gigs - she was always too weird and nervous and goofy.  Which is why she started doing her own things.

I had the same thought. But, I expect many excellent jokes to come out of this.
