The comments on that news site are pretty good.  Once lady crying about how the "boys will be boys" but everyone else seems to think that creek should have been "catch and release"

Abacus9: ongbok: Abacus9: Gyrfalcon: Unobtanium: Paging hardinparamedic to thread 8137180...

I'm sure you don't want to hear what he's got to say. Nothing gets medics and rescuers pissed off like dumbasses who feel they're entitled to risk their lives being stupid and then biatching about the service when it gets there.

Yes, these guys "make a living" rescuing people as you say. They would prefer it be because you did everything right and still got into trouble, not because you deliberately did everything WRONG and got your stupid ass into trouble because you were a fool. It's too bad people like this are incapable of comprehending that fine distinction.

Come on, you're smarter than that. Most people can make almost all the right decisions and fark up one small thing, and end up in trouble.

CSB: An old friend of mine got beat up by a bouncer once, for zero reason. Not only did the cops do nothing, one of the paramedics assaulted me because I dared suggest he do his job, which he never did. The officer that witnessed this made me apologize to the rent-a-doc. And while none of it made the news, you know how they can twist a story. Just saying, maybe the guy's an ass, but he's not necessarily wrong.

Hmmm. That statement right there tells me that your friend most likely got his ass beat by the bouncer for a reason, and you were also being an asshole. Plus in your story everybody was being an asshole except for you and your friend who where doing nothing. What's the old saying, if everybody you meet is an asshole, then it is you who are the asshole.

Hmmm, that post right there tells me you have zero reading comprehension. There were about ten of us, as it was a bachelor party. I only accused the one paramedic and the one cop of being assholes. And they were. My friend got beat up for having the balls to go back inside to get his phone. The cop was an asshole for refusing to even look into it, the paramed was an asshole for refusing to care for my friend, as he's paid to do ...

Good points, all. Sounds legit to me, and damn anyone who doubts your version of how these events unfolded. Because, after all, a bunch of guys at a bachelor party are never anything but the very picture of decorum.

Even though this has absolutely nothing to do with search & rescue, the whole "Ima taxpayer" thing always gets my goat.

I used to hear that crap all the time when I worked for Parks & Rec anytime someone didn't like a decision I made.

When I ran adult softball, we had games two nights a week. On those days, fields were prepped early in the afternoon and 'closed' until game time. From time to time, I would find people playing on the infield and I would tell them nicely that I had games scheduled that night and if the players showed up and their fields were messed up, they would be upset. I also told them that if they moved to the outfield, no one would mind if they stuck around.

One fellow decided to pull the taxpayer card on me. I told him kindly "well sir, I have about 100 guys that are going to play on this field this evening that are also taxpayers. Plus, they also paid registration fees to play in the league." He then threatened to call my boss, the council, etc. I gave him the numbers and wished him well and told him that the park rangers would be by in a few minutes.

Those folks are specifically paid to rescue people.

I don't biatch about doing my job.

and because of that soon you'll be on fries, and then the grill.

Dude. You are 24 years old. Unless you invented a new type of pornography, there is no possible way you've paid into the system the amount that it just cost to rescue your dumb ass.
