Repeal, don't replace.

/someone has to say it

So this law is critical to the well being of the nation's families except to the extent that it conflicts with the well being of the mid term elections.

How many businesses fall into that category, I wonder?

You're right. That's only about a 180-1 ratio shown in the cartoon. The ratio is much higher.

Admittedly, they're right both times.

* Obamacare is possibly a bad law.  It's got some good, it's got some bad, there's a BUNCH of extra taxes that may or may not be killing jobs and venture capital including an 8.8% increase in capital gains taxes, and it's supposed to get exponentially more expensive as time goes on.

* With that said, once it's been passed, by what authority does Obama get to say "Oh yeah, this law doesn't apply to you and you and you and you and you because you're politically connected"?  Shouldn't we maybe be passing another law?  (I'm legitimately curious, not agreeing with them)

meyerkev: 8.8%

Sorry 3.8%.  There was an unrelated 5% increase around the repeal of the Bush tax cuts.

He's delaying killing medium size businesses, subby. It says it right in TFA. He already killed small business with his unconscionable and exorbitant tax hikes.

If he's acting beyond his authority, they (GOP House members) should impeach him.  As long as they're all talk, I'm going to assume that they accept that he in fact has that authority.  If he's acting beyond his authority, and they DON'T impeach, they're part of the problem.

Can a Total Fark hive-minder tell me why this delay is legal and ok? Why does he continue to post-pone such life-saving, job-creating law?

If it's a bad idea now, I'm sure it will be a good idea in another year or two.

I was told the nation was going to collapse and the world would end the day that Obama was elected, and told the same for pretty much everything thing he has done since.

I am all out of f*cks to give for hyperbole directed at our current president.

fusillade762: How many businesses fall into that category, I wonder?

I don't know, but small businesses (<500 employees) employ about half of the US private workforce.  Here's a PDF with some summary info from 2012: http://www.sba.gov/sites/default/files/FAQ_Sept_2012.pdf

There are 28 million small businesses and 18,500 businesses with 500 employees or more.  Though 3/4 of the small businesses have no employees.  I didn't bother going into the data tables (it's on the sba.gov site if you care to dig) to find out how many are in that one slice of 50-99 employees.

Take into account that when the bill was first passed, the dems immediately tried to fix the problems the Republicans were pointing out, only to have the republicans vote no across the board.

Remember that. The Republicans voted against fixing the very issues they pointed out when the bill was still new.

"By offering an unexpected grace period to businesses with between 50 and 99 employees "

Yeah right. What's the real (read: political) reason that this happened?

Well their biggest fear about Obamacare is that once people are on it they won't leave.

Flappyhead: Well their biggest fear about Obamacare is that once people are on it they won't leave.

That's why these postponements are fine, though not necessary.

The ACA is being steadily implemented. There are fewer and fewer aspects to fear coming around the bend. The parts being implemented are either being embraced widely or being shaken out quickly, and the more people get used to it, the less they'll be looking to go back from it. Politically, it's actually pretty smart. The longer the ACA implementation inches forward, the more slowly but surely people will like it. These little gestures make the white house seem reasonable in offering every concession in terms of a timeframe without repealing any part of the actual law, and giving the GOP just enough scent of blood to get them to shout louder about the ACA each time as more people say, "Hey... it's really not bad. Actually, I'm covered more. What are they complaining about?"

Basically, this makes the GOP less and less credible if they want to claim credit for the ACA down the road when it is fully implemented.

SlothB77: If it is so great why delay it another year?

Huh, you know, with all of the effort people put into derailing ACA, I can't begin to imagine why some implementation delays were inevitable.

Is this the part where we talk about the cheap companies that are actively trying to get rid of full time employees, so they don't have to pay for that employee's insurance?

Conservatives REALLY have a messiah complex for our current President. And not the fun kind with Mr. Sinister and the reformation of X-Force in a non-crappy way.

The law authorizes the secretary to direct implementation as necessary to ensure the law's success. There is nothing remotely improper about this delay, but don't let that get in the way of your outrage.
