Shove came to push . . .

2014-02-10 03:03:52 PM
Dunno. Can't blame him if the guy called him a n*gger. Take his punishment, sure, but he didn't do the wrong thing.

2014-02-10 03:04:08 PM
Marcus Smart, dum dum dum dum dum

2014-02-10 03:04:25 PM
Much all around farkery going on here.

2014-02-10 03:04:47 PM
Since he won't be with the team, he can throw on the flip-flops, flop on the couch, and flip on the TV.

2014-02-10 03:04:59 PM
The fan was a complete asshole and I am happy to see he will not be at any more games.  At the same time, Smart was not only a moron for that push, but for placing the race card when the audio clearly backs up the fan.  Calling Smart a "piece of crap" is not a racial slur.

2014-02-10 03:05:39 PM
It's not an actual problem. If the fan said what we're told he said, he should also be suspended. We know Smart did what he did, so he should rightfully be suspended. White, black, Ron Artest, you can't hit the fans.

2014-02-10 03:10:25 PM
Ehh, if you're going to shove someone make sure it's a fan who doesn't understand the possession arrow but screams at the top of their lungs after every jump ball

2014-02-10 03:11:07 PM
I'm hoping this sets a precedent that if any fan storms the court, it's open season for the players.

2014-02-10 03:11:22 PM
Punishment fits the crime. 3 games is adequate for a simple push, if he threw a punch, then season ban would have been appropriate. Also, I like the fact the fan was 'outed', what a farking douche. Your 50 something dumbass, act like it.

2014-02-10 03:13:16 PM
Apparently, in some order, the fan told Marcus Smart to "go back to Africa, n****r" while he was underneath the hoop.  If true, I'd help Smart kick his ass, even if I were a Texas Tech fan.

2014-02-10 03:16:58 PM
He's just practicing for the NBA...

2014-02-10 03:17:49 PM

Ow! That was my feelings!: Your 50 something dumbass, act like it.

He was referred to as a "super fan" in every article I read.  He is not a normal person.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: Dunno. Can't blame him if the guy called him a n*gger. Take his punishment, sure, but he didn't do the wrong thing.

That was my initial feeling.  He was a knucklehead for shoving that douchebag (and yes, the interwebs has verified the level of douche with that guy), but I understand.

Of course the guy is claiming he didn't drop the n-bomb...though players and coaches for OSU have said they heard him say it.

Robin Ficker (sp) was a "super fan".  This guy was just a douche.

Here's a video of it with audio, the guy is claiming he called Smart a piece of crap and it sounds like it.

Meh, you call someone a piece of crap when they're a foot away with a face like his then there's a chance something might go down. You think this guy would call Marcus Smart a piece of crap if they were alone on the street?

Nope. Do agree with you though...

ESPN played audio and you could clearly heard be called a piece of crap but not the n-word. I guess it could have happened after the audio ESPN played, but then it probably would have happened after he shoved the guy.

He definitely said something to Smart that caused him to turn around.  Smart did not handle the situation properly.  He should spend another year in school to get his mind ready for the NBA.

I can't say I blame Smart wither way if he did it.  He still has to serve the time but I would want to do it too.  Actually, I would want to punch that guy.  He has a punchable face.

Yeah, I didn't heart it in the audio as well.  Like I said, what he did was dumb, but I understand.

I'm the first to say fans pay for the tickets, so they can cheer and boo as how they feel, but there is some level of decorum when heckling the opposition.

Don't talk shiat if it's something you wouldn't do outside of a venue where there's security to save you.

Of course, take into account these are TTech fans we are talking about.

I'll never forget the whole Steve Kerr/PLO chants incident.  That was ready-made for someone either starting a riot or doing a Jordan/Bird and dropping 50 on ASU.

Smart apologized and was suspended. The fan apologized and agreed to forego attending games for the season. All in all, both sides reacted well, but I wish they acted more mature in the first place.

Fans shouldn't be cursing and insulting players and players shouldn't be putting their hands on fans because they hurt their feelings.

2014-02-10 04:31:00 PM
I really would have thought Marshall Henderson would've been the current collegiate player to briefly channel the "Ron Artest Interactive Experience" during a game.

Not condoning the shove (especially if there was no racial slur involved) but an "elder" outright heckling a student-athlete by any is just pathetic. If your idea of supporting your alma mater is to berate and insult 19 and 20 year olds, you're a pretty small, sad individual.

How do you know that? The only audible phrase you could hear was "You piece of crap" and that was while he was on the ground. Then he got up and turned around, and when he did that you could see the guy was still talking, but we can't understand what he was saying, then came the shove. So yes it is entirely possible that he said that to him or something else to him that caused him to shove him.

To be fair, long ago its teams were called the Aggies (it being a land-grant school formerly known as Oklahoma A&M).

2014-02-10 04:40:39 PM
Deadspin had something on some of this guys previous antics, my guess is he is just a "super fan" who likes to spread crap onto the other team and should have been banned or at least moved to the upper teir where no one but his fellow fans has to deal with him long ago for his classless behavior.  He is just a punk who writes big checks with his mouth when he knows the other person can't retaliate, basically a little man who has to prove he is big.

I am not excusing Smart, he never should have pushed this idiot and I would beyond pissed at my son or daughter if they reacted to this guy in such a way.  That said jerks like this just pick, and pick, and pick at people assuming he will face no consequences, and eventually these jerks need to face some sort of consequence, but I would hope that teams would identify them and remove them long before events like this happen.

I really don't think players should have to be so close to assholes in the crowd.  They should have at least as much separation as you get in hockey, football, or boxing.

2014-02-10 05:09:01 PM
Sometimes people deserve a good punch to the face. Unfortunately, the law protects these people pretty well. People are a lot more respectful if they think they have a chance at getting punched in the face.

I wish more athletes would study how Jackie Robinson handled insults thrown at him from the crowd.  What Smart suffered was tame compared to this man's trials.  BTW it is not a good idea to insult someone who carries a bat and knows how to use it.
