InterruptingQuirk: Panty Sniffer: Oh!  there was something interesting in the Olympics this morning.  A Russian female speed skater after the race unzipped her suit to cool off or something.  She forgot that she was not wearing any thing underneath it.  That is worth watching.  Did NBC show that?

I don't even think it would be a problem here

[assets.nydailynews.com image 635x1018]

But, I'm usually wrong about that

as the a liter who knows all, i can say with definitive authority: not a problem here.

Take all the money spent all over the world and do something useful with it - like hunger, climate change, peace.

Another reason to hate NBC.  Apparently the half pipe for snow boarding is a mess, and NBC wouldn't let them work on it because it would cause too much noise and distract from whatever nearby event was being tape delayed for later broadcast.

Dear IOC,

Asking as an American, please, please stop giving NBC the rights to broadcast the Olympics in the US. All they know how to do is fail. They screwed up London 2012 and are screwing up Sochi 2014. I would rather watch the CBC's or BBC's coverage since they cover the events live, in their entirety.

Thanks,
An American who wants to watch the Olympics as it was meant to be watched

mr_a: And to the color analysts- maybe stop screaming and explain WTF is going on?

did you catch the analysts with the cross-country skiing races?  that guy was over the top...you'd think he was describing game 7 of the nba finals.

Or an invasion of Martians during the Super Bowl.

Our entire living room broke up in 10 minutes of laughter when someone wondered aloud what he must have been like on his wedding night.

If internet whining ever becomes an Olympic event my country will sweep the medals.

spman: Am I the only one who finds the Winter Games much more dull compared to the Summer Games? There seems to be a lot more variety in the Summer Olympics, but with the winter games it mostly boils down to skiing, skating, snowboarding, sledding, and curling. Some of it is entertaining, but the most part it just gets a big yawn from me.

arent the summer games just varieties of running and jumping?  To me they're both pretty tedious but it's cool seeing people that are awesome at things doing what they do best

Don't forget the biathlon.

Skiing AND shooting.

They need to have drinking, too.

Bendal: They should at least have people throwing things at them while they're performing their routines, just to make it more interesting...

I think, halfway through the routine, Lucic should bust out of the penalty box and board 'em.

ancker: Commentator 1: Oooh! This is getting very exciting now...
Me: Hmm.
Commentator 2: Yes, this cross country skiing race has come down to these last few hundred meters.
Me: Interesting, I think I'll continue to watch this.
Commentator 1: Over the next couple minutes XYZ will need to attack on this hill as she doesn't have the skill to beat them in a sprint.
Me: Wow. This is intense.
Commentator 2: XYZ is attacking on the hill, ABC counters the attack!
Me: Holy Crap! Look at them go, this is awesome!
#### NBC Sports: <Commercial break> ####
....5 minutes pass.....
Me: <All excitement lost.>
#### NBC Sports: <Commercial break over> ####
Commentator 1: <Right back into the excitement since this was taped.>
Me: Interested, but nowhere near as excited as before the commercial break.
Commentator 1/2: <finish off the last 60 seconds of the race>

I know I didn't miss anything because of the commercial break, but why did they need to cut to commercial with only 60 seconds left in the race? Some robot is probably following some predetermined commercial break schedule, but still, they managed to kill every ounce of excitement I had built up in the 10 minutes I had been watching. It's like cutting to commercial between the 2nd and 3rd outs in the 9th of the 7th game of the World Series....

I am getting the weirdest sense of déjà vu about this post...

I'm not sure if you're being satirical or not, but I think it's funny that you imply something that happens annually in the US is less important or impressive than something that happens every four years on an international scale.

Obviously referencing Australia but could easily have been written by a non-Southern-state American (the spelling & grammar are too good to be from a Southerner).

They're too good to be from an Australian commentator as well.  Seriously though, my little brother is no fan of the Aussie commentary but NBC flat-out puts him into a rage.  (He plays beer-league table tennis, and tried to find streams during the Summer Games.  Oops.)  So I'm thinking we should show whoever wrote that some sweet, sweet Costas magic and declare HATE a new Olympic sport.  Gold for Australia!

Although I can't stand most of the commentary, 99% of the commentary, the guy doing the curling last night at USA-Norway was very good.

And this really needs a caption contest:

Here's how I know you've never watched curling.

the801: rage: i don't have a cable subscription, so i can't (legally) stream Olympic events.

SO MUCH THIS. fark YOU NBC.  fark YOU RIGHT IN THE EYE.

Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: I wished they would have just shut the f*ck up for awhile. Somebody in the Fark thread suggested that they have an SAP-like button that would block the announcers and let the audience enjoy the pageantry for what it is.

/I don't need to hear 14 times that they are announcing the countries in Cyrillic-Alphabet order.

If I could pick and choose the sports to watch, a la carte, and only listen to the sounds of the events, no color commentary... oh man I would be in Heaven.  I would probably pay a small fee for such a service, but at the very least I'd be happy to watch NBC ads.

Why can't they do that?

They are losing viewers every year for the olympics... I wonder if it has to do with the coverage?

Good news/bad news Bob Costas' eye boogies have gotten so bad that Matt Lauer is going to take over.
