Not to be a debbie downer, but this really is sad.  The way people with mental health issues were treated back in the day really is a black mark on humans in general.

I mean, I know that science wasn't advanced enough to understand the issues much less how to go about dealing with them, but some of the shiat that was done in those places is just creepy.

I don't know how i is in the north, but where i grew up in the south one can't throw a rock and not hit an old 'facility' graveyard. Even as kids we all knew where the local ones were. They end up being the subject or many dares.

No kidding. A dental school in Mississippi? What next, an air conditioner repair school on the South Pole?

We used to lobotomize them, now we put them in Congress.  It's not much of an improvement

The University of Mississippi Medical Center planned to build a parking garage east of the dental school, but testing in the area revealed the bodies, which are believed to have been patients at the Mississippi State Lunatic Asylum a century ago. none of the bodies are identified.

Were there any survivors?  Can they identify anyone from dental records at the dental school?

2014-02-10 12:25:08 PM
3000 Dollars per body to move? Golly, couldn't they just take them up to the science, medical and anthropology labs and use them?

3 grand each to move the bodies? Really? I can rent a Case 580M backhoe for 4 weeks for under $1900.

Step 1.) Dig new hole.
Step 2.) Remove bodies from old hole.
Step 3.) Put bodies into new hole
Step 4.) Profit!

The cost of moving the bodies is believed to be about $3 million, or about $3,000 per body.

Not to mention the cost involved with having their ghosts come back and convince you to kill your family.

Don't look into it, the "treatments" that they use to preform are quite disturbing.

they're not treated much better now

and by treated, i mean, arrested and put in jail, since there are no other alternatives.  prisons are our new mental health facilities.

Headstones are expensive and institutionalized crazy people don't have much of an income. They probably surveyed a field and recorded which 3' x 7' space held which dead lunatic(s). It's much cheaper that way.

Yup, and also one of the US's biggest dumping ground for anti-depressant drugs now.  Much easier than actually dealing with prisoners' issues.
