Scared of our pressure. See, that's why we need to keep the pressure up and need more sanctions.

Propaganda.

It's in Tehran, so probably not. Kidnapping and beheading staff would be more likely.

That depends. Are we republicans?  Because I'm pretty sure if we're republicans, Iran has to be exactly the same as Nazi Germany.

I have a feeling this is also a signal to the western world that Iran's ready to get out of timeout permanently.

I, too, have to wonder how this will be spun. There are folks who have an unreasoning hatred of everything Iran. People, place, culture... everything. If it's Iranian, it's bad. Yes, their religious institution has been claiming "Death to America!" for decades. Yes, they use it like Hawaiians use "Aloha!". The times are changing, and so are the people on both sides. Hopefully, this is something that will continue.

I don't even think its that the poeple are changing. I think it's that the voices who have been out in front are changing. The old leaders of Iran probably no more speak for all of the people than GW Bush or Dick Cheney spoke for me.

Is it irony if you're ridiculing one group for making a sweeping generalization, by making a sweeping generalization about them?

This is probably true.  The people who hated America, the people who led the revolution, the people in power are getting old.  Iranian people probably roll their eyes when they hear about 'the American devil' the same way we'd roll our eyes when we hear about the 'Red Menace'.

This isn't really much of a shift.  Iran has always taken an official position of, "we love Jews we just hate Israel."  Now you can pitch a fit about the gulf between "official" and "actual" and the shiat they pull when they have an excuse or the propaganda games they play, but that is not a change in how it plays.

What is mildly surprising is that anyone, even the huffpo, is talking about it.

Yeah, but Iran is like eight or so hours ahead of us, so you have to account for that ... eight-plus hours every day really starts to stack up, I'd be surprised if it wasn't September there already.

Tonnage and DRO, I completely agree, and yeah, of course the red meat gets played for the masses by the media because it's more interesting. Same thing happens in the US. What I was more looking at was that it's not the religious fundies that are running the show as much as they used to, and I'm rather pleased about that. Sorry for not being clear.

This information conflicts with that worldview, and it is therefore patently false.
