Well, I'm sure America's youth don't have a self-confidence problem.  They all seem to think they are great.  Just look at how many participation trophies they have.

Selfies are a not a cause, they are a symptom.

I think most kids know those trophies are lies, well at least the ones that don't suck do.

/My nephew always gives his participation ribbons/trophies to the worse kid on the team so that kid will have two.

Yes, the problem is that they're not getting enough likes on their selfies.

The problem absolutely isn't that people are basing their self-worth on selfies. Nope, that's perfectly healthy.

OMG!  Everybody doesn't think that I'm the sexiest thing to ever grace a camera lens?  I know that's wrong because you all love me!

Anyone who would take lots of pictures of themselves, or use the word selfie, is mentally retarded.

I also find great humor in the fact that the baby boomers.. the original self-absorbed, narcissistic, self-indulgent generation, take offense with the millennials being self-absorbed, narcissistic and self-indulgent.

Who gives a damn about a pic of you doing this or that. Just like Texting, I don't care that you're buying a pair of shoes right now. My phone beeps with this junk from people and I'm starting to ignore it all. I don't Text people myself, I don't even know how to turn that on on my phone! If I want to talk to someone, I Call them. Just cut it out! Stop it, no one cares and quit Bothering me with all this shiat!

So a story on how the current youth are getting clinically depressed from not enough external validation, has become about how 'daddy ' wasn't perfect? Let it go princess, live your own life. Try being better instead of settling for 'no worse than ...'.

FTA "If they feel they don't get enough Likes for their selfie as expected, they decide to post another, but still do not receive a good response. This could affect their thoughts. They can lose self-confidence and have a negative attitude toward themselves, such as feeling dissatisfied with themselves or their body."

Then STOP taking selfies and posting them up you stupid coont and kill yourself already.

Also in TFA "You'd be hard-pressed to find a smartphone owner anywhere who hasn't indulged at some point"

Hard-pressed? Unlikely.

I have had 4 smartphones in the last 4/5 years and have NEVER taken a selfie and I have no desire to.

Thankfully I get my validation from other, more substantial means. Like the number of broken-hearted souls I leave in my wake, and how well my houseplants grow.

My kids used to get anxious when their friends wouldn't text them back within 12 seconds.  I explained to them that it wasn't a reflection on them, there are often very good reasons for people to be away from the phone, such as when parents take them away for texting at the dinner table.  Then I took their phones away to prove my point.

Everyone likes a little bit of feedback on how they did, it's no big deal.  If you require instant validation on every little thing, just start working on some self confidence techniques.  That's something you have to learn for yourself, I not convinced self confidence can be taught.  You have to start with good (however you define good) actions and introspection.

Is it still considered a selfie, if you use the timer in the camera, and are not clicking the shutter, your self?

Maybe like ten years ago, kids don't get participation trophies anymore because of your bad attitude asshole! (and because that shiat was proven to not preparing kids properly for the harsh realities of life)

5' 9", 85 kg. Is that fat?

I don't take selfies because I am on camera when I work (actor/ex model).

Can't be bothered with all the selfies cr@p. I find it too narcissistic, especially when people upload their selfies to try and get some praise. I really don't give a fark if people have low self esteem.

Also, I'm not shallow...

'Oh, look at me! look at me! Is my selfie any good?' Go fark yourself.

I've taken a few selfies in the last 20 or so hours because I slipped on some ice and broke my right clavicle.  The development of the now massive contusion has been sorta interesting.  Nothing for a few hours and then gradually spreading black-blue-and scarlet-ness.

Taking pictures of your junk is a form of selfie.  Not being truthful about doing it isn't going to make it grow Pinocchio.

When people don't like them
, you start posting your junk.
When people don't like your junk, you take dangerous pictures involving your junk.

Don't let an alligator bite off your junk.

meh.. from what I've seen and heard, Americans with low self-esteem end up getting guns to compensate for their other failings... and sooner or later, they end up on Fark.

Did your nephew learn to be an asshole from someone in the family, or did he develop that on his own?

Wait, don't answer that. Considering how quick you are to brag about your nephew's superiority, I know the answer.

Your kid has an entire shelf filled with mediocrity doesn't he? I have a theory on how Participation Ribbons came to be. Some soccer mom was tired of her loser kids crying in the backseat of her mini-van because they were wrecking her Xanax buzz.
