"Help!," "Mom!" or "AHHHRRGHGR!" are never good safe words for this reason. Next time they should pick something like "watermelon" and let mom know that screams may be heard during this performance.

I like H. Beam Piper's sentiment on this.  If you are shot, stabbed, burned, killed, whatever while you're in the course of committing a felony - well, sucks to be you.  It's your fault; nobody else can be held liable for it.

Hmm, behavior = consequences.
Bottom line here, he won't do that again.

A: A gun.

You can't go to another person's home, get in a fight with their child(even if that child is an adult), and expect sympathy from anyone if the parent steps in.  He should have just walked away.

I don't have a gun, don't particularly care about guns, and I'm still OK with this.  Had it been my daughter threatened, there would have been softball bat wounds.  Not everyone wants to risk their child's life waiting for the police to arrive, just to make a political point about gun control.

A: A gun.

Beating women is pretty low, but so is shooting someone in the back as they run away through your yard. In both cases a deed was done in which you want revenge, so you take a cheap shot. Are you a cheap shot kind of guy at home, too?

The article says they found him in the yard. She very easily could have shot him in the house and he collapsed while trying to flee.

This other article says that she shot him while he was in the hosue, he then fled the house and was found in the yard.

I'm guessing she shot him in the back or lower back after he flopped out the window. The jerkoff upthread is imagining something out of Assault on Precinct 13.

If the account in TFA is accurate, fine.

You'd think someone would be charged with something, though.

So long as you use a narrow definition of committing a felony.  The guy running away isn't a valid target.  The guy who has surrendered isn't a valid target.

We don't know that.  This isn't Hollywood where bullets are either minor wounds or drop the guy right there.  Most places a bullet can hit will not cause immediate incapacitation and even fewer aren't lethal hits.  Thus if the target survives it's quite likely they can move some on their own.

I'm okay with this. Exactly what she should have done.

Doesn't sound like self-defense, sounds like revenge. Makes it difficult to enforce laws when you have the people doing it for you, poorly.
