I'm guessing that if the crew of Apollo I hadn't died on the pad, they would have died in space, ending the entire program right then and there.  Imagine them orbiting the Earth for a few months until the capsule would have finally re-entered the atmosphere.

Godspeed, fellas.

Alebak: Nefarious: It was legal to mail children in 1913?

I'm pretty sure that was proven as a myth

I can't say, but I know that in 1916 my maternal great-grandmother put my 7-year-old grandfather on the train in Ft Worth to join his father in Reno. Grandpa travelled with his ticket and destination instructions pinned to his jacket. My great-grandparents had divorced two years earlier and he'd moved to Reno. G-Grandma kept the younger boy, but her excuse was that she couldn't afford two boys on a washerwoman's wages. She later remarried and my grandfather rejoined her in about 1922. I was always fascinated by the story, and Grandpa told me that the train crew took care of him during transit and turned him over to a policeman when they arrived in Reno, who gave my grandpa instructions to find grand-grandpa's house.

Ooooh.  That may very well have killed the Apollo program.  Imagine astronaut bodies orbiting for months... nobody knows where or when they're going to come down and burn up... Yikes.  Who wants to pay for number 2?

'Ohh ja, mein gott, little Adolf vos alvays a verry verry naughty boy - all da time ve could nevver get him to drink da juice for lunch. I heard he hated juice all his life Such a little arschole, he vos'.

This was a propoganda photo, made for the war. Consider the odds of a future German chancellor being at the crowning point of an Australian school photo, looking all regal and shiat.

ArcadianRefugee: Honestly, this hipster-ish "I saw it before it got to Fark" stuff makes you look like a complete coont.

Whereas you calling me a coont makes you look like a total hero.

My point wasn't OMG REPOST, it was "this entire photo series was lazily lifted from another website in toto", and they didn't even have the decency to post the pics at hi-rez, to boot.

Really?  That was your point?  I came away thinking "this douche bag thinks he's cool because he saw something on Reddit.  Cool enough to brag about it on fark.  I bet he posted the original  just so he could brag in the thread if it goes green."  I was wrong, my bad.

Aquapope: I was just talking about the folks in the pics being wiped out. The 1919 pic was people watching the treaty. Kill them and likely nothing would have changed. But it's an interesting question: what if everybody at Versailles had been killed before signing the treaty? Would WWI continue for several years more? Could Germany ever recover enough from that to start WWII?

Oh, no... I understood what you were saying. i think the WW1 was over. If the issue had been more one of reconstruction and reconciliation instead of punishment, compensation, dividing the spoils of war and drawing random lines on maps of the middle east, the result might have been different. Who knows? Maybe even more greedy bastards would've been sent in to fill the void. It's hard to believe that the result could've been worse. Maybe, just maybe, cooler heads might have prevailed.

Hitler. Well, he might have been replaced by others. There were many who shared his, um, enthusiasm. He was the right guy at the right time. But then, so was Himmler, or Goering, Goebbels, Bormann et al. And they might not have made the idiotic tactical mistakes that Hitler did. We might all be speaking german.

But just imagine if Germany had been welcomed back into the community of nations after WW1 as they were after WW2... well the western portion anyway. If the middle east decided their own destiny instead of having France and Britain draw their borders in 1919, which still exist today. The borders of Lebanon, the Palestinian Mandate(Palestine/Israel), Syria, (Trans)Jordan, Iraq etc exist because of decisions made in 1919.

/ok I've rambled enough.
