Doom MD: Most gun owners are really friendly and down to earth. Were a nation of 300+ million people with arguably the most active media output in the world. If those so called gun nuts were a dime a dozen it wouldn't really make for much of a story. You're not hearing much about the gang wars in Chicago are you?

Yes. In the right places you are.

iron de havilland: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The meaning of which is, "Everyone's in the Militia and needs to be able to buy decent guns, so the government can't do sh*t about it."

iron de havilland: I could have posted some trollish comment about how maybe the US could benefit from laws such as the UK has.
//But I won't.

Eh. I'm a gun enthusiast and I still think there need to be better and more consistent background checks, and safeguards to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.
My mom is schizophrenic, and has never been arrested, so she could legally own a gun. Should she? HELL NO.
I don't really agree with legislation banning specific guns (often it's poorly thought out and vague anyway), but there does need to be better oversight of WHO has firearms in their possession and whether those people are competent and mentally sound.

Mayhem_2006: You can have your own rifle or shotgun for hunting, no problem.  My nephew has had is own shotgun since he was 11, and my brother in law uses a rifle to thin out the wild rabbit population on his land.  (Plus the occasional squirrel, the thieving buggers)

iron de havilland: individuals can own shotguns and rifles, if they have a license.

Obtaining a license requires owners to have a lockable gun cabinet, a visit from the police to inspect the premises and a background check of mental health and criminal records.

Thanks. I never got into much detail with anyone, so I wasn't sure about the specifics (my husband gets into more in depth conversations about that stuff than me).
But we've had members at our own gun club, and also met people in gun shops, who moved to the states from over there that mentioned having legally hunted over there, just that there were more restrictions, so I knew it wasn't banned or anything. Several people mentioned being part of a hunting club so I guess I just assumed it was part of the legislation, but maybe it's just a common thing.

What a royal asshole.

Mid_mo_mad_man: Doom MD: I thought the British weren't allowed to use guns

He's not British. He's from an old German family.

Yeah...Saxe-Coburg-Gotha didn't sound as good after the Great War.

Prinz Wilhelm Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha vs Prince William of Windsor, one is catchier.

Someone went hunting. Therefore all animals are endangered species on the verge of extinction.

elvisaintdead: ramblinwreck: Wild boars are considered nuisance animals by many states.  Subby is an idiot.

Pigs can have as many as six litters of around six piggies each a year.
They tear up the ground like a herd of rototillers when they're rooting for food.

They are a nuisance,  and do tons of damage to crops and sensitive areas. Many places don't even have a season on them- just shoot away!
[ image 360x270]

they're also damn delicious. waaaay more flavorful and yummy than steroid riddled, water-injected, farm raised "pork."

Saturated fat with wild-boars is extremely low as well. It is up there with say a no-fat chicken breast.
