HotWingAgenda: As has been noted millions of times before, if winning and losing in an event is based entirely on some asshole's subjective opinion, it doesn't belong in the Olympics. It's an art, not a sport.

Those aren't based "entirely on...subjective opinion."  The job of the refs is to determine what happened, which is objective.  Although their view of reality is inherently subjective, the reality which they are supposed to be measuring is objective.  Basically, if a computer can do it in principle, it's objective.

Another way to express that same point: if 'artistic' points are involved, it is not a sport.

Of course, it may possible for a computer to judge many of the points in figure skating, but not artistry.

That's rather amusing.  Maybe not quite as amusing as what you could lip read coming out of US figure skater Debi Thomas's mouth after Elizabeth Manley's skate at the 1988 Calgary Olympics though.

I happened to be watching some of the figure skating stuff (don't ask me why because I don't know other than I'm a heterosexual man that has an excuse of a girlfriend who wants to watch) but the judges seemed to be giving out low scores for everybody. According to the announcers, anyway. I wouldn't know what a good score is.
