socalnewwaver: toure, you better not go all wba on us today.

My insurance chip is on this match--it could go either way and none of the fans would be confused.

Arsenal advantages: Strong midfield, back four have been playing very well together as a unit, Ox just had a brace last weekend, and the team has had some time to rest

Arsenal disadvantages: Still missing key players, a bit fatigued, Giroud has been unimpressive

Liverpool advantages: Home at Anfield, SAS strike partnership is looking great, team is in good form overall

Liverpool disadvantages: Injuries to key players, especially on the back line

Bookies have the Reds as favorites today, but I'm predicting a narrow 2-1 victory. Fingers crossed.

Vidic's timing only makes me think that Moyes begged him not to go to the press until after the transfer window. United's gonna need some real activity next window, not just 1 midfielder once again.

Ideal outcome for me is a big Arsenal win: keep Citeh at bay, and help Utd's very slim hopes of a top four finish.

So that's not a great start.

I appreciate the condolences, but none are necessary. Your team is playing better right now and fully deserving every goal they've scored. The scoreline could be higher based on the chances and shots so far.

Our players simply aren't performing right now. They've gotten by in a few games when they weren't fully switched on. This game is a reminder of what can happen when you do that against a good team.

Yeah, it's weird. I've been streaming it from NBC all season. Then out of nowhere this morning it tells me that my Dish Network subscription doesn't include the necessary channels. I think it's been a lot of mismatched momentum in the matchups. Arsenal has been unsteady recently, and Liverpool just got Sturridge. Spurs' demolitions came when AVB had lost control and they couldn't score outside the penalty spot.

It is your FFPL report!

img.fark.net

At the top nathanjr holds onto first place. OPERATION BALLSOUT came a cropper for him though as NUFC fell badly against Mackems, tearing his +20 BB out of his cold, dead hands. I have reduced his massive lead slightly and perhaps more importantly claimed the Presidency of the BB club thanks to a conservative choice of MCFC Vs Palace. I extend my small lead over wynswrld in third.

At the bottom Darkwyrm, Gothenberg_Red and Defrus are on their third zombie warning. Cameroncrazy_1984 just managed to stay in front of Fulham Zombies.

Top score for the round was a mighty 65, achieved by both Sachbash and Bolo78. Desertgeek placed third with 55. At the other end, 13 players handed points back. Gonz_Hotspur lost 30. ADubs86 doesn't want to talk about his -45 and LucklessWonder is going outside and may be some time [-70].

Very little movement rankwise. Sachbash, Stimied and Bolo78 all shift up 2. No one Page 2 moved at all. ADubs86 drops 3.

Double bubble this week.

I was -this- close to pasting this into a politics thread.

Except for the two draws, every game was rather lopsided.

Honestly, I didn't think Liverpool was going to have a shot at getting into the contest for first place.  But they still need a bit of help to avoid having to play in the playoff round for next year's Champion's League.  OTOH, Everton has a shot to cement a place in European play tomorrow and keep Liverpool looking over their shoulders.

I'm not even thinking about the title at this point. There's 13 matches left and if we only drop points to Chelsea and Man City, we'll be in the top 4 for certain and probably top 3. The key is to avoid dropping points to bad teams like West Brom.

Manchester United counter-attacking goals 1992-1998.

The move starting at 39 seconds, I'm not sure what more you could possibly want from a goal. Other highlights include Schmeichel's assists, and Andy Gray complaining about United's defending when they're in Leicester's box.

Whoa, I think Fark at my comment. Or I'm still hung over.

Meant to say that I'm interested to see how Toronto FC fits all these big-ticket players together on one team. Is Ryan Nelsen up to the task or making them a cohesive unit? It's one thing to get them all in one place, but quite another to get them to understand each other and work as a unit.

Forgot the update on the MIGHTY managerless Oxford United.

Mid-week,they caught up their game in hand on the League Two leaders with a 1 - 1 draw against Bury. Yesterday, they repeated that scoreline, as Bristol Rovers scored a late equalizer for that game to also finish 1 - 1.

so, currently the top of the League Two table (3 automatic promotion spots, 4 play-off teams for the last promotion spot) looks like this:

Pos. Team               P    W  D   L  GD  Pts
1.   Chesterfield      30   15  10  5  21   55
2.   Scoonthorpe        30   13  13  4  14   52
3.   MIGHTY Oxford     30   13  12  5  16   51
-----------------------------------------------
4.   Rochdale          29   15   5  9  12   50
5.   Burton            29   14   8  7   5   50
6.   Fleetwood         28   15   3 10  12   48

I just about fell out of my chair seeing MUtd give up that goal to Fulham.

And now heading for -30 on this one. Strangely, I don't mind...

-30 incoming for a weekend total of -100. Thanks a bunch Moyes.

2014-02-09 11:25:29 AM
I assign that breakdown to the midfield. I don't think any goalie would have stopped a goal like that, it was a perfect pass and a perfect single touch. But their midfield has entirely too much room to maneuver.

Whoops, my math is wrong, it's actually -110.

I'm the real idiot for fully knowing Moyes would mess this up, yet leaving my banker where it was. Moyes loves giving the opponent a break. Never won at Old Trafford? Here you go, Swansea. Haven't won here in decades? Congratulations, Everton. You just lost to Sheffield United? Have a break, Fulham.

fulham have won exactly twice at ot in 38 visits.

2014-02-09 11:38:48 AM
Kieran, you HAVE to put that away.

2014-02-09 11:40:43 AM
You are tasked with being United manager. As your midfield options, you have Ashley Young, Shinji Kagawa and Adnan Januzaj. If you were a sane man, you'd laugh away Ashley Young and choose one of the other two. If you're David Moyes, however, you pick Young and tell the others to suck it.

I just don't see how Fulham can take 60 more minutes defending in their own box. United is bound to score sooner or later if they can't clear it.

54 United crosses, 1 Fulham cross.

2014-02-09 12:24:01 PM
You have a chance to square the ball for a long-ranged shot. You've tried and failed 55+ crosses. What do you do? You cross it again and fail.

United gained points once in the final quarter of PL games this season.

2014-02-09 12:28:12 PM
I think at this point, United are going to cross until one of Fulham's center-backs gets a concussion. It'd be the perfect time to strike again and score.

Sadly, he's still Moyes. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he makes Chicharito play just like Young was.

2014-02-09 12:37:16 PM
As a fan of tragic comedy, I want Fulham to score again. Via a cross if possible.

2014-02-09 12:37:19 PM
Even a draw is an embarrassment for United at this point. Fulham have been defending excellently though.

2014-02-09 12:37:20 PM
AND DOUBLE CRAP

2014-02-09 12:37:56 PM
And that didn't take long for United to undo that knot.  Striking from distance and it deflects...

As soon as I typed that, United score. Oh well.

2014-02-09 12:38:09 PM

Naturally.  Fulham's poor clearance was the result of fear and anticipation of a barrage of crosses from United.

If you put your banker on Man Utd, you should be ashamed of yourself. They're not worth banking on ever. They could be facing the worst team in League 2 and I'd still think it will end in at best a draw for Utd.

If not for my lack in trust for Spurs, I'd declare Utd out of the running for the Europa League, but they're done for CL hopes. Absolutely done.

For me, it's not about United itself. I've had a soft spot for them after the '99 CL final. It's about Moyes' delightful reaction to setbacks.

9 points out with 13 to play and they still have to visit Arsenal (Wednesday) and Everton and host Liverpool, Citeh and a sneaky good Hull City. They'd pretty much have to win out to have any hope of getting into the top 4 and they don't have the ability to do that.

So, United is still playing like a mid-table team I guess.

I did watch Spurs v Everton but then slept for a bit longer. No offense to Spurs, but you only got 3 points out of that because of Lloris and in part because Mirallas was a complete knob and wasted a great scoring opportunity right before half. Good job ignoring your wide open striker and then drifting into a bad angle at goal, with the cherry on top being the attempt sailing high.

Spurs are still looking like "11 talented players who don't even know how to play with each other" though. A lot of aimless midfield passing but nothing connecting into the box during normal runs of play.

2014-02-09 01:49:08 PM
Moyes has to go. This is essentially the same side that walked the league last season and is now almost assuredly out of the Champions League spots in February. But worse than the league position is that the performances haven't improved at all. Every match is the same shiate tactics of get the ball out wide, cross to no one, and repeat. Why the fark did the club spend so much on Mata just to shunt him off to the wing and send in 75 crosses against Fulham? How the fark do Young and Valencia keep getting matches ahead of vastly more talented players like Kagawa and Januzaj?

Throw some silly money at Klopp or Simeone this summer and let the Scot git go back to whatever mid table side will have him. Notice how Tottenham or Chelsea or City never once were linked with Moyes despite changing managers more than I change my socks. There's a reason for that. He is comically out of his depth.
