(Mother Nature Network)   Sure, you've mastered Dothraki and Na'vi. But do you know a word of Lapine or Nadsat?   (mnn.com) divider line 32

Man On Pink Corner: Yarbles.

"Well, well, well, well. If it isn't fat, stinking billygoat Billy-Boy in poison. How art thou, thou globby bottle of cheap, stinking chip-oil? Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou."

I think thats my favorite bit in the whole movie.

I have used the term "tharn" ever since I read Watership Down many years ago. It's like "deer in the headlights frozen" and always sounded like a perfectly serviceable way of communicating that phenomenon. This might be the nerdiest thing ever. I think I'll go read A Clockwork Orange again.

Oh come on.  We can do better than that for nerdiness.  Let's see...Are the black rabbit of Inle and El-ahrairah the same being or not?

Embleer hrakah, can't the grazhny bratchnies at Salon make a webpage that loads?

/I'll admit I had to cheat and look up the spelling on the Nadsat words. I don't use them that much and I get those two mix up in my gully-wulliver anyway.

What's the approximate largest number of speakers of the language at any point in time?  Or am I missing a reference to a fictional language?

In the movie, yes. In the book, most definitely not.

It was the seven of us when we first made up the language, but I'm the only one that was geeky enough to truly commit it to memory.  It's totally useless knowledge now...

And kudos on making out the mangled Latin of my name.
