There were like 100 empty seats. I'd have been pissed at anyone who sat by me in that theater.

debug: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: I thought we knew what happened, an psychopath old father shot a young father for  no several reasons.

Oh, there was a reason.  A couple of them, as far as I can tell.  Not good reasons, mind you, but still reasons. Since you're going for the irrelevant father angle for some type of heartstring sympathy, I edited your comments to be more accurate.

Previous reports say he went to see the manager. He already had the gun. What was he going to do? Go out of the theater, across the parking lot, get his gun then come back? By that time the movie would probably have started.

Maybe over given his age and fast he walked.

/This ex-cop is no Zimmerman.

The old guy overreacted and took a man's life over getting pissed off and saying something about the victim using his cell phone before the movie started.

No winners here, but it probably shouldn't have cost the idiot cell phone user his life. Basically a road rage incident, translated into the theater. Two morons escalating their anger over something simple stupid small.

My take-away is the old guy saying "I'm 71 years old..." - he was basically admitting that he didn't care enough to be concerned that he was going to potentially take a life when he drew his gun.

The guy will never be a texting asshole in a theater again, so there's that.

What this society lacks is a whole lot of, "Oops!  You're right.  I farked up.  Sorry."

The asshole probably DID deserve to be shot, based on the video.  If you look closely, he lunged over the seat, grabbed the guy's popcorn, threw it at him, all while probably yelling at the guy.  The popcorn throw was probably followed by him raring back to do more, had the old guy not shot him.

We'll never know, but the entire incident could have been avoided if the asshole had just had a little bit of respect for other people around him and just apologized.  "I'm sorry.  I was just letting the babysitter know the movie was starting.  Phone is off and headed into my pocket."

I'm glad someone else sees the bigger picture here.  The younger guy could have prevented the whole thing with an apology or better yet not texting/using his cell phone in the theater.  Get the hell up and go to the lobby if you have to use your phone then someone with no tolerance for jerks doesn't shoot you.  Common courtesy is gone in this country and this is what results. That said, the police captain was just as able to defuse and instead let it escalate.  No winners, just losers - it is sad.

fark you.  The previews are the BEST PART.

They come on LONG after the "turn off your farking cell phones or GTFO" message plays repeatedly.

If I owned a theater, I'm pretty sure I could charge a lot more per ticket, sell drinks and popcorn for much less ($5 for a drink and popcorn of reasonable size e.g. what you get at Target's snack bar), and have a VERY strict behavior policy.  I'd have assholes actively escorted out of the theater and banned for life if they become a repeat annoyance.  People would flock to my theater because my staff would actually CARE.

I don't know where the "cowboy culture" came from, or how we get rid of it. It's the violent culture that's the problem, too - Hell, the Swiss have a Goddamn REAL assault rifle in most households, and they hardly EVER shoot each other.
For whatever reason, when a typical Swiss loses his shiat he just doesn't think to pick up a shootin' iron and vent in that fashion. It's not in his culture.
Just trying to take the guns away would make it worse - we need to get right in our minds.
And I don't know how we do that. There has to be something to be done about it - but I'm old, and stupid, and am out of ideas.

I thought the kid was 2 months old.

Old man's wife almost immediately stated there was no cause for shooting anyone.

Old man has said he wishes he hadn't done it but there are no do-overs in life (sounds like the statement of a 6 year old).

There are lots of temperamental people who get real mad, but they don't hit or shoot others.  That's what cussing is for.  And yep, the young father should have apologized and put the phone away.  Of course, going in and out of the theater (which is still okay, right?  can't get shot for that yet, right?) is more annoying than fiddling with the phone during the previews.

And why people sit next to each other in an uncrowded theater, I'll never know.  Would love to know who sat down first.

Yeah, he`s screwed.

Cautioning that "this is not a verdict," is what they do when the guy is so blatantly guilty that they have to show they have not tried to influence the jury by denying bail and thereby supplying a technicality for the lawyers to pounce on.

I don`t care what you used to do as a job be it pimp, whore, soldier, fireman, policeman, judge, sewer cleaner, whatever.

When you get old you should not be allowed to do stuff you can`t do anymore safely where you could hurt others for example drive trucks, fly planes, carry guns, drive trains etc.

There should be compulsory retesting for all the above activities (and others) after the age of 60.

He was texting the babysitter, telling her that he was shutting his phone off. That has already been reported. The old Nazi Cop was already biatching about shiat when he sat down behind the couple. He instigated the confrontation and apparently was not at all polite.

I would have told the old bastard to go fark himself too.

What the shooter was, was a hot-tempered lunatic looking for an excuse to commit murder.

dready zim: When you get old you should not be allowed to do stuff you can`t do anymore safely where you could hurt others for example drive trucks, fly planes, carry guns, drive trains etc.

There should be compulsory retesting for all the above activities (and others) after the age of 60.

Old people and women should just accept that they are weak and just submit to whoever wishes to do them harm, like children.  They should only be allowed to run away and make a phone call and nothing more.

BafflerMeal: fusillade762: They have cameras inside movie theaters now? Well, so much for sneaking a beej in the back row.

You were sneaking?  Everyone else knew what was going on.

Yes, because some pimply teenage guy with brown, curly hair, wearing a red, polyester vest would always emerge from the aisle to shine his flashlight on you. Never asked us to stop though.

The downside of being a rude asshole is eventually you run into a homicidal asshole.

Mock26: If the victim was the one texting then the shooter should be given a medal.  If the shooter was the one texting then he should be castrated and then have his fingers pulled off one-by-one, and after that his nuts gnawed off by beavers with dull teeth, and then burned alive.

God forbid you farking read an article and educate yourself about the situation before you comment

The theater looks empty. If the guy in front of you is annoying, change seats. Is that so hard?
