The 28-year-old man was on his board about 50m out from Porpoise Bay Beach, near Curio Bay, about 8.30 last night when the attack happened

So there's a shark bite victim bleeding out on the beach, bystanders get a tournequet on, and it takes an ambulance forty minutes to get there?

2014-02-07 11:57:38 PM
You can't explain that.

As you command. Though it's more of a "robot shark to be punched".

Why not? If there's enough light to see, it's not like your going to run into anything.

On another note,

An ambulance arrived about 40 minutes after the attack

That took a while. Good thing there was a doctor at the beach already.

You silly Americans.  This happened at the bottom of the Soith Island of New Zealand, where it's summer and the days are very looooong.  Of course it took 40mins to get an ambo there the Caitlins are in the middle of nowhere.  Just dunno why the dude didn't stitch himnself up and go for a beer like the real southern man from a couple of weeks ago.

The Catlins coast is an incredibly beautiful part of New Zealand and it's something that most tourists miss. I particularly like Purakaunui Falls.

Has anyone mentioned it was a tad late and, as such, their would not be much sunlight available for surfing?

Has anyone mentioned the sun sets there around 9:15pm this time of year so there would still be plenty of light to catch the last few waves of the day?

I didn't know waves stopped when it got dark.

/no sense wasting them I guess.
