IlGreven: I don't get vegans who are vegan because they don't want to harm animals...as they munch on vegetables which were most likely ripped straight from the ground by heartless machines without their permission, leaving their now-empty husks to wither away in the field of their birth.  And fruits plucked from trees as casually as you please...but that's the equivalent of reaching up a womans vagina and plucking her eggs out to heartlessly devour in front of her...which, come to think of it, is basically what we do to chickens.

I went over to a vegan friend's house the other day. She was so vegan she didn't feed her cat any meat.  I watched her cat closely, and it was watching her with a certain expression...remember those old Looney Tunes cartoons when two guys were lost for days at sea, and one guy gets that certain expression on his face, and then we go to his point of view, and the other guy's suddenly turned into a roasted chicken?  Yeah, kinda like that.  I wanted to tell her "That cat's gonna eat meat, whether you want him to or not. And if you don't start feeding him meat...that meat could be you."

Cats will go blind if they don't get meat. They are not meant to be anything vegetarian, much less vegan... You might wanna tell her that.

Bathia_Mapes Some years ago I heard Ingrid Newkirk advocating that all owners of cats & dogs should set them free.

My cats were always free to go and they always came home.  Until they didn't :(

Yeah, this.

If the cat doesn't have serious health issues, that simply means it's getting meat from somewhere.

Bathia_Mapes: m00: Bathia_Mapes: I'd be upset too, especially knowing that PETA regularly acquires animals from shelters and then euthanizes them instead of giving them a chance to be adopted. They have a hell of a nerve preaching about eating meat or how animals are slaughtered. Bunch of hypocrites, IMHO.

Yep, exactly.

Their logic is that "domesticated animals are an abomination and shouldn't exist." It's clear they have no sympathy for animals... if they had their way, they'd kill every domesticated animal. That's pretty messed up.

Some years ago I heard Ingrid Newkirk advocating that all owners of cats & dogs should set them free. She felt that owning a pet was wrong yet what she is advocating would result in these pets being abandoned, the end result being that they go hungry, would be exposed to the elements and naturally, become feral. Many of them would end up dead, but that wouldn't bother her considering the large number of cats & dogs PETA destroys each year.

She's a despicable creature.

I don't know what an Ingrid Newkirk is, but I'm pretty farking sure my cat appreciated having a warm home to sleep in and a regular supply of food and water.  I have no doubt she would have died a young kitten had I not adopted her as a pet.

She was sick and starving and had been shot with an air rifle when I took her in.

Calmamity: Pretty sure PETA is a false flag operation for the meat and fur industries.

Like how feminism is a false flag operation for MRA groups?

gfid: "Well, I hold a knife and stand at a conveyor belt where every few seconds I have to grab a bladder from a cow and slice it open and drain the urine. We kill 5000 head of cattle every day where I work and the urine splashes all over me so it's like I bathe in an Olympic sized swimming pool of cow piss every day. BTW, what do you do?"

"I sit at a desk and read Fark all day and get paid 3 times as much as you."

and this right here is why you continue your education, children.

OK, can we get this confirmed by a news source other than The Blaze? They rank just above the Mail in trustworthiness. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if PETA really did this.

Gyrfalcon: "We regret that happened. It was simply a mistake made by volunteers," explaining that the two pieces shouldn't have been put together.

So you're not only liars, you're gutless liars as well.

This. I hate PETA so much.

Silly PETA.   Inserting political agendas into textbooks is only for approved deviant groups.

Pattuq: If it takes shocking impressionable little kids to get people to grow up caring about non-human life, then go for it.  The perfect fairytale world so many of us fabricate to present to kids until they're "old enough" to handle reality does more harm than good, especially since in most cases "old enough" is whenever we no longer feel guilty about telling them the truth.  Not just about this, but a wide array of subjects.

Oddly enough, I agree. Showing kids where their food comes from is always a good idea. Taking them fishing (and then cleaning and eating the fish) is an excellent traditional way to do that. If you can't do that, just teaching them how to cook a whole chicken and going through the bag-o-guts will drive home that this was once living thing. PETA's little handouts have pretty much squat about the reality of eating meat or how animals are usually treated, however.

PETA is pretty much the Jack Chick of animal rights.

Bucky Katt: If you're squimish about where your food comes from then maybe you should rethink what you eat.

Exactly this. People tend to be so far removed from the reality of where food comes from, it's unconscionable to eat a pig's corpse, for example, without knowing that what's on your plate was once a sentient mammal like yourself, as smart if not smarter than your dog, and that it suffered and died to feed your taste for flesh.

I have no problem with people who hunt and fish fairly to feed their families - they know what is to take another creature's life - but to willfully ignore that reality is akin to being a mindless bible-thumper who refuses to engage with things like reality, evidence, and facts. Somewhat less than human themselves, perhaps. And rumored to taste like chicken.

PETA in a nutshell. Oh, and Bob Barker? You're an asshole for funding these assholes.
