Huggermugger: Rapmaster2000: give me doughnuts:

What's the criteria? Is it geography? Is it historical? What sets your dividing lines?

If you want to go with the strictly geographical, then you'll have to use the geopraphical center of the contiguous US. That puts almost all of Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and California in the southern half of the country, as well as all of Arizona and New Mexico.
If you want historical (meaning the Confederacy), then your own map is incorrect as it includes Missouri and Kentucky (neither of which seceded), and does include West Virginia (which only came into being by their refusal to go along with secession).

Incidentally, the center of the contiguous states in only six minutes of latitude north of the Mason-Dixon line.

I live in GA and don't feel OK is Southern at all.  Let's just call that whole strip "the plains".  Give East Texas to the South and West Texas to the West.  South Florida goes to the Caribbean.

Missouri gets nothing because nobody likes Missouri.

Go look at the Federal census for Oklahoma, available online through 1940 via Ancestry.com. Most of the people who were living there in the early- to-mid 20th century were either born in Southern states, or their parents were. Mostly Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas. All Confederate states. Okies overwhelmingly had a Southern heritage.

Kentucky never seceded.

Lorelle: He's just a typical Republican.

BULLshiat.  Typical Republicans don't have near this level of fortitude.  The whole worthless lot usually backpedals and gives in.

Nabb1: You are correct in many respects, but I would offer one caveat here, and that is that this restaurant owner and his ilk are quickly becoming living anachronisms. There would be nothing newsworthy about this guy in 1962. The world is moving on from these people such that his rankings about his little backwater shiathole greasy spoon can get such attention and generate a lot of condemnation. Even this thread has reached a count in the hundreds with no one really defending the man's views or actions, just how we should handle them. Even if we don't agree on whether the state should intervene or if societal shunning and public condemnation is enough, no one here seems to be sticking up for this guy's hate.

Well stated, counselor.

dr_blasto: E470 does it right. They only charge via mail so you never need any change. If you're from out of state, you get a bill for your toll in the mail and you never have to stop. If your state doesn't provide license plate info to the toll people, you're off scott free.

No.  They do it farking wrong, considering I didn't get the bill until it had gone to collections.  I've only taken the E470 once, and it cost me $82 to go from I 70 to I 25.  That's over $3.11/mile because they couldn't get a bill out in a reasonable time frame.  Worse, I had cash in hand when I was going through there and was slightly horrified to see the cash lanes closed permanently.

The E470 gets it about as wrong as you can get.  If you're not going to take cash, farking warn people because apparently, we can't trust their billing system to work in a timely fashion.

Critical Cool: From where I sit, your intolerance of him and ready willingness to use the government to push your own views makes you not only an asshole but a much bigger asshole than this guy.

So, his intolerance of this bigot makes him an asshole?  Really?

SansNeural: I'm guessing you're Creek, though who knows with the way folks move these days.  Where I live in OK now, I know more Pawnee, Ponca and Wa-sha-she Natives.  I grew up (until about 15) in Alfalfa county - no blacks, few "injuns" out there at the time.  Fewer people out there in general, now.  The people of that area where I grew up were generally good, though culturally inexperienced and I reckon that hasn't changed.

Real close.  Cherokee, I'm on the Cherokee side of town by just a smidge, since the line is Admiral Place and the closest public intersection is Mingo and Independence.  The tribes, in general, are making a comeback.  My generation looked around and basically said, "Hey, bro, where's my culture?" and started doing things like learning what ostensibly should be our mother tongue, going to pow-wows and getting involved with our tribes.

/Ponca's intertribal pow-wow is epic.  If you leave bored and hungry from that, there's legitimately something wrong with you, even if you aren't indian.

Cat Food Sandwiches: FlashHarry: he doesn't like "f*ggots, n*ggers, cripples and democrats." i'm guessing his CPAC invitation is on its way.

what a vile, subhuman piece of shiat. i really hope he dies a slow death from ass cancer.

So, your hate for him is somehow more acceptable than his hate for others?

Why won't people tolerate the racist restaurant owner's intolerance???

Swanji: If you force this guy to allow everyone into his business,

If he wants to do business with the public, then he needs to do business with ALL of the public or not be in business at all.

2014-02-08 11:33:17 AM

bigpeeler: More power to him.

No. Bigots should be made to feel powerless. Moreso when they expect to run a public business while excluding most of the public.

You want specialty clientele? Then open a private club.

Swanji: teenytinycornteeth: DROxINxTHExWIND: Theaetetus: DROxINxTHExWIND: You know, I think I like this guy. At least he's not the type of pussy to make racist comments anonymously and then backtrack when he gets called on it.

As opposed to making sexist comments anonymously?

Yeah, there's no way that negatively referring to a human being as a piece of female anatomy, intimating that to be such a piece of anatomy is to be weak or inadequate could be considered sexist!

Oh for fark's sake.  "Pussy" in that context has nothing to do with the female anatomy.  That may be its origin, but in today's vernacular, it no longer refers to a vagina.  Stop your whining.

That explains why nobody uses the word pussy to describe vaginas anymore!

/you seriously need to get out and talk to human beings before lecturing others on vernacular

HotWingConspiracy: Why do you want to mess with this person?

Why does this person want to mess with other people?

Why does he get free reign to be a bigot, but suddenly everybody else is in the wrong for calling him out on it?

Why should anybody turn a blind eye to this?

suburbanguy:

/Now, if you were talking about eastern NY...

When I lived within the city limits of Troy, [eastern] NY, I was about three miles from a small trailer park that resembled anything I've seen during my years in Mississippi...trash piles, livestock, the works. Most NYCers I've spoken with resent the fact that a bunch of appleknockers in Albany call many of the shots in their lives. When I was in the environs of Niagara Falls and Buffalo last summer, it was clear the local pilots I was flying with regarded pilots from the Midwest as hicks.

Geography is the first refuge of the socially myopic.

Mattyb710: privately owned business

A business that is open to the public is not private. A business that is not private needs to be open to ALL the public.

This guy is running a restaurant, not a private club.

2014-02-08 11:55:08 AM

Swanji: Wait, so now "injustice" is defined as any time someone is a little mean to someone else, and hurts their feelings?

This guy is BREAKING THE farkING LAW.

You have to be a troll. You just have to be. Nobody could possibly remain so ignorant after having been explained why this is wrong as many times as you have in this thread.

2014-02-08 12:01:05 PM

Mattyb710: I'm supporting his right to do as he pleases with private property.

This would make complete and total sense if this were happening on private property. What he is actually running, however, is a public business. You can disagree with the law all you want, but at least stop pretending that you can't comprehend the explanations you've been given for why it exists.

Really? I've never had that problem. I did blow off paying one on time, received a second bill with an extra charge. Called them to pay and they removed additional charges.

Mouren: Mouren: Guys a dick but it is sorta his right.

I'd attend a sit it (or around, not actually in his place) for the lulz

Also as a preemptive comment the right to refuse exceptions only apply to "race, color, religion or place of origin". Does not explicitly apply to gays, which is the pertinent part of the story for me.

Sure there's precedent for arbitrary rules being unlawful but I doubt the judges in OK would care enough to enforce it.

Weird, because the pertinent part of the story is actually about the person in the wheelchair being denied service for no reason other than being in a wheelchair.

Waitafugginminute, the filter used to get backwards stuff also -- kcuf -> kraf.  They took something out of the filter?

Most are privatized but I know of a few rural counties that have county EMS. I'm sure those aren't free either.

SansNeural: Bucky Katt: Oklahoma isn't OK.

Says the Farker who's profile includes (1) "SW Fla" and (2) a map that indicates "never been to Oklahoma"

But I can accept your judgement that Oklahoma is not completely OK, if you can agree that Florida is also not OK and that every other state is also not OK, understanding that there are assholes like the guy in the FA in every state.

Holy shiat, someone actually read my profile!
