"I think the general public will be alarmed by it and wonder if people have been allowed to bring guns to school in the past," Nolan also fretted.
She said she would prefer "something more subtle."
"You can't look at this (sticker) and not think about Sandy Hook," the principal added.

Normal people do not behave this way.
This level of hysteria borders on satire and belongs in an Onion article.

We really need some sort of common sense authority in place, people who are sane, well-adjusted, and emotionally stable, who have the power to review people in public office like this and go "Yeah, sorry, you're clearly a lunatic and you shouldn't even be in charge of a mall information kiosk, let alone a god damn public school. Gtfo!"

It's Chicago. You have to show a pictograph, because the high school students are illiterate.

The field of education chased off anyone who was sane, well-adjusted, and emotionally stable long ago.  It has become an echo chamber of the same ideas ricocheting between the same people year in and year out.  The scary thing is that they're educating our kids.

It has been my experience that we take our best and brightest and promote them to positions where they can greatly influence our children. They usually end up as school administrators. This woman is a great example of that virtually unbroken chain of success stories.

And by "best and brightest" I mean "stupidest."

It's not South Chicago, idiot, it's Tinley Park!  Woo-hoo,Tinley Park represent!

Luckily, my kids went to Andrew, and those people are smart enough to keep their mouths shut.

But it all makes sense.  Remember, this is a representative of a profession, that is panic-stricken when a grade-schooler bites a sandwich into the shape of a gun.  These posters look exactly like real guns.  When they go up, expect massive sweat stains on everyone, but the kids.

Laugh if you want, but according to a study conducted by college classmates of mine, when comparing the effectiveness (in getting people to think about smoking), the ads that work best are old-timey TV cigarette commercials and produced-by-Philip-Morris anti-smoking commercials, with actual "smoking's bad for you" commercials produced by nonprofits being far less effective (imagine that).

Sometimes, saying "DON'T THINK ABOUT ELEPHANTS" makes people think about elephants.

// this is still dumb, and I want to keep laughing

There are actually multiple factions of different kind of crazy at work - but yeah, more and more, they're all second raters. And it isn't surprising. I don't know any normal person who would attempt to do one of society's most challenging, crucial jobs while being perpetually abused in the forum of public opinion and paid worse than a garbage man. Bust my ass attempting to educate some IQ 80 car detailer's kid, so that said slug can get up at the PTA meeting and explain in his halting monosyllabic manner that I am a dumb commie and shouldn't have a union and need to get right with Jesus?
You can kiss my ass.

I have been a special education teacher for years, specializing in IEP's (Individual Education Plans) and I can tell you the push is on to eliminate guns from our schools completely. I have had fathers blatantly tell me they encourage their children in all kinds of violent play at home. I do not hesitate to recommend a child receive special courses and be separated from their peers if they show signs of "gun-orientated" play and it is a dangerous precedent to allow it to continue without censure from the school. I have heard too many "It's just a Lego gun!" or "It's a drawing! It's just a drawing!" (usually laced with profanity, which doesn't earn their children points with me) to be a part of ignoring this problem.

So parents, if you want your children to advance with the rest of their classmates, do us all a favor and leave the violence at home with yourselves, don't contaminate the rest of the children.

The writing is no problem. I'm sure they could find one maybe two people who could pull that off. However you would have to relay on the vast majority of the students being able to read it.

So, you see why they need to use the symbol.

You're an idiot.  No, seriously, you are.  How do you think we have all managed to make it this far prior to you sweeping in to save the world?  Oh yeah, it's because KIDS FARKING PLAY.  They are playing the same way they did 50 years ago.  They aren't all committing mass murder.  That has nothing to do with you.  I can see if you have a kid who is ACTUALLY violent, that's a completely different story.  But if you're segregating a kid for a LEGO gun or a drawing, you're not very intelligent and there's really no other way to put it.

/please tell me you're trolling and I just took the bait
