Is this a follow-up to the Portland "Worst Day of the Year (Bike) Ride" being cancelled because it turned out to be the worst day of the year....

Pansies.
Antarctic Ice Marathon - hey, it only costs 10,800 euros to enter. They also have a 100k ultra marathon option. Fun!

I will never pay any amount of money to run a 5k or anythingK in the snow.

I think I've had to use mine on every run since December.   They should still do this 5K, gimme a break.  Anybody training for a winter run knows how to handle the ice.

You know it has been a bad winter if they cancel a winter event because of winter.

Pussies.  Back in the winter of '87-'88 I ran a half-marathon from the vicinity of the Watervliet Arsenal up the Mohawk to Schenectady, back to Albany and back up the Hudson to near where we started. Longest race I ever ran, near the end of my running days.  I had toned up for it by running the loops at SUNY-Albany every day for weeks.  Mostly flat, with the exception of the slow incline down into Schenectady and back up into the plateau...and the end of State Street in downtown Albany.  This was much steeper, and downhill.  During the race there were patches of ice throughout the route, but the most dangerous one was at the bottom of State Street where you had to make a very sharp acute turn left onto Broadway.  I made no attempt to speedball it, but when I passed through I could see that many others had...and that some had slipped on the ice, went sliding across the corner and left blood and bits of flesh on the pavement.

/they had pitchers of genesee at the finish line
//not sure which caused more casualties, the ice at state&broadway or the beer

We run primitive biathlons even in snow and ice.

Added difficulty:  If your powder gets wet, gun doesn't go *BANG*.  And it's supposed to snow for the second day of this weekend's Southern Vermont Primitive Biathlon.

/Good thing I made a cow's knee last year.

..So if it was, wouldn't 5000 still fit inside 6000 years?

This is true.  It doesn't strain credulity that God didn't get around to creating weather until 5,000 years ago after all.

Those first six days were exhausting though!

I don't know, most people I know who live south of Cleveland (as in south of the coordinates) don't really handle winter well. My sister moved to Indianapolis and she reports that the residents are pretty bad at handling the snow they've gotten. Her upstate NY experience shows because she's the only person on the street who shovels the driveway in case they get more.
