His wife is a Republican. I often wonder if he purposefully sunk John Kerry's Presidential run. I don't understand why Kerry hired him in the first place. The guy seems like a little sell out worm.

Wasn't he key in the Clinton victories? Not Sure.

If he was, that doesn't sound like a sell out to me.

James Carville did not have any meaningful role in Kerry Campaign that would allowed him to purposely sink it.

I wouldn't call bringing about the most influential Democrat presidental term since the 60's the actions of a sell out.

Yea,  Kerry lost because of Carville, not the fact that John Kerry is a massive flip flopping arrogant douche.

OK, long post, please bear with me:

I would really love it if the whole "Liberal vs conservative" argument would just simply die off.  That way, those current members fo the tea party that really want to tackle the debt load and that alone wouldn't have to run with the psychos and crazies that are running the show over there.  Liberals who want to tackle reasonable health care reform and environmental issues wouldn't be saddled with the extremist groups that bomb factories and things like that.  The independents who just want to do the most intelligent thing possible wouldn't be caught in the crossfire of "LIB!!"  "CON!!" diatribes.

Yes, the left has it's loonies...but they tolerate them, and every so often, give them limited platforms to get their point across. Conservatives worship their loonies.  Yes, there's no other way to say it.  People the likes of Jindall, Bachmann, Limbaugh, Aikin, Palin, Hannity, McConnell, Ryan, and all the others are just complete LOONS!  Fruitcakes!  Diagnose-ably mentally incompetent for adult life!  Complete total and utter loonies, with NO ideas, NO intent to do anything positive, and not even the remotest attempts at being human beings.  And conservatives WORSHIP these people.

Look, I've got issues with the left, but I have completely discarded the right.  NO idea that they can come up with is not stained and tainted by the stink of the crazy train they've been riding for the last three decades. The entire GOP needs to be scrapped, stripped down to a few core moderates, and re-built from the ground up.  We need conservatives.  There.  I said it.  We need them.  They are a 'second check', or a 'cautionary voice' in the continual march forward towards a better nation, a better society.  They make sure that new ideas are given proper 'vetting' before charging in and implementing them.

But in their current incarnation, they aren't doing that.  They are fully intent on marching backward.  Completely and totally backward.  Fully intent on rolling back hundreds of years of progress, scientific achievement, and social justice, all "In the name of God".  And unfortunately for them, the "God" they refer to would in no way, shape or form endorse their ideals.

Carter was sunk by 'malaise'
Dole was sunk by 'bob dole, bob dole'
Bush I was sunk by 'read my lips'

It is often a single perception that takes a candidate out.

For Kerry it was 'flip flops' or perhaps you don't understand the word moron?

Um, that's a pretty accurate description of Kerry. He was the Democrats' version of Romney and it still amazes me how the Democratic primary voters were stupid enough to pick him as the candidate that year.

/it should've been Dean

This.  I would have voted for Dean in a heartbeat.  The D's would be having NO problems winning any election right now if they showed a fair bit more fight.  Granted, One of the reasons I lean towards them is that they are the adults int he room, and don't tend to wade into the muck and mud as deeply as the GOP always does.  That said, some things are worth fighting for, and I wish the D's would pick up a baseball bat now and again.

I think that's what killed any remaining notion I had that the media was liberal.

Everybody knows that the more exposure you have to people outside your clan, the more liberal you trend - people who speak a second (or third, fifth, whatever) language, people who've lived abroad, people who've changed religious beliefs or economic strata - so it's no surprise that journalists might have a more liberal attitude.

But the way they savaged Dean makes me think it was personal as well as political, especially compared with how Warren and deBlasio are treated now.

// maybe it took super-conservatism to realize that sorta-super liberalishism is worth a shot?
// anyway, Dean should run again, scream or no scream
// any Edvard Munch PSes of that?

He's on a bunch and this was mentioned a month or two back. Kucinich joined a while back, as did Austin Goolsbee. Fox news gets a little needed respectability from these hires and these guys get to insert some democratic messaging to moderate the derp. Its not a move towards the center or anything as it doesn't change the narratives, but it does allow democrats to reach more thoughtful segments of their audience to show them their positions are not as comical as shown.

While I can see the argument for that...I wonder what the context had to do with it, rather than the comment itself?

Perhaps: "Corporations are people, my friend "
or: "I like being able to fire people who provide services to me."
possibly: "I'm not concerned about the very poor."

Kerry was a pandering weakling.  But Mitt was just horrid.  How someone like him could have even gotten INTO the primaries is a real puzzler  a factor of money.

In any other primary year, Romney would have been crushed. Back in 2008, forget McCain, even Mike Huckabee probably would have beaten him if it had been a 2-way race between them.
