When it's going to be that big of a fare, I'm shocked the cabbie didn't ask to see the cash up front.

I was wondering about that too. There could be a rule in NYC prohibiting asking for money up front.  Alternatively, she had credit cards. There could be a rule in NYC prohibiting swiping the card before the trip.

I'm sure there was SOME WAY she could have repaid the cabbie.  Just sayin', am I right guys?

Without pics not going to comment.  And she'd have to be really good to be worth $980.

For $980 plus the cost of a dead head trip back to the airport she better free up her weekend, and most of next week.

Don't be fatuous Jeffrey.

/Or, I should say, Kendelrio

Don't cabbies refuse fares all the time? You'd think that from New York to Boston would be one of them. Sounds like both parties were trying to take advantage of one another here...

OK this story is COMPLETELY not believable.

No one in their right minds pays to go into Framingham.

That's NOT $980 worth of hot. But then, there really isn't a woman walking this earth I would consider that hot.

/unless its for a week
//and she better make a damned good sammich and hot meals too
///and get me a beer wench!

She didn't show him a $500 bill with Franklin instead of McKinley?

As a general rule they're not supposed to. Regulators run stings, usually involving a dark-skinned man wanting to go to the dark side of town.

Refusing fares to another state may be allowed.

Guy is stopped at a red light when a street walker comes up to his car.

"For $50, I'll do anything you want..."

"Anything?"

"You name it."

"Wow!  Great, hop in!"

They drive back to his house.  He gets out, runs inside, and comes back with a paint brush and bucket.  He hands them to her.

"You're a lifesaver!  My wife has been nagging me for months to paint the house!"

Why not take the bus, or train?
Or maybe she was just too lazy or stupid.

Still, I've never heard of a hack that would even consider a drive like that without the money in advance.

I drove cab about 30 years ago (Albany NY), and the fare to NYC was $320 at the time, ALWAYS paid in advance.

2014-02-07 10:10:13 AM
Now the distance from New York to Boston is about 220 miles. The fare is 40 cents per 1/5 mile, or $2.00 per mile. There's the initial charge of $2.50 Where's the last $100? I guess it's a gratuity.

2014-02-07 10:10:33 AM
No honest cabbie would agree to take anyone to Boston from NYC.  Hell, try and get a NYC cabbie to drive you to Jersey.  This story should read: Two A**holes Who Deserve Each Other.

Ughh....cab fares and public transportation in America are terrible.  These days cabs are for the wealthy.

BizarreMan: When it's going to be that big of a fare, I'm shocked the cabbie didn't ask to see the cash up front.

In the late 80s I drove a cab on Long Island; compared to NYC, LI was unregulated.  Late night, large ($20+) and out-of-town fares were required to be paid in advance.  The dispatcher would mention this over the radio so the rider would know the driver wasn't just farking with them.

/cabs did not have meters, dispatcher would determine the fare based on zones/grids.

This so much, talking to a cabbie recently about one of his longest rides, the cash was up front and dropped off at his home office before he drove so he wasn't robbed.

She was probably hoping to land the cash cab

She didn't pay. That's the point of the article. How was an NYC cabbie supposed to know Framingham has poor people and underdocumented immigrants?

And an REI, but it's real close to the Natick line and you can get there from the Pike.

She probably could have taken a flight to Logan for less than what that cab fare ran her.

Ah...yes, glorious Framingham...AKA little Brazil.  Home of Mr Onyango Obama, the president's illegal immigrant uncle.

Isn't that just a few miles? Like 20 minutes maybe? I've been as far east as Sandusky, Ohio. That's right outside Philly, which is basically a suburb of NYC. Right?

Yep.

Or taken the Limo Liner; pretty swanky bus, about $75 one way, Hilton to Hilton.  Bonus:  I think it stops, once...in Framingham.

Payable in advance, unlike this taxi. If she had a few dollars, the Chinatown bus should still be cheap unless FMCSA has it shut down this week.

I paid $20,000+ cash for something once and the seller immediately drove us both to the parking lot of a nearby state police post and put the money in a large yellow envelope and dropped it into a public mailbox, addressed to someone somewhere I have no idea. I thought that was very clever.
