Valiente: Substitute "Mandela" for "King" and you have pretty much the same story. It seems the price of being a beloved public figure is to preside over a nest of worthless vipers. Virtue isn't inherited.
devildog123: Robert1966: I'll say it, and it goes for Mandela, too. King was a great man who did great things for the good of his people and, indirectly, for humankind in general. But he wasn't a good guy. A lot of what makes a person a successful leader also often makes that person an asshole, especially to those closest to him or her.This. He liked to have affairs, and it's pretty common knowledge at this point that he plagiarized his doctoral thesis (and let's face it, if you cheated on your thesis, you were probably doing it all through school). Honestly, he was a minister who slept around on his wife and cheated at school. If he was anyone OTHER than MLK, Fark would have a field day with him. All those things don't diminish his accomplishments, but it does show that he didn't think much of family, and was hyper driven to succeed. Those people do not make the best parents.
