One could funnel a few billion down to people to research people living in space and stuff like that. The other would cost a couple hundred dollars and make a lot of people happy.

I can see which one the government would choose.

/didn't we just have a story about the most power laser ever being invented?!

Thankfully, the petition to determine whether the owner of a perfectly functional cheese slicer is much better than the owner of a PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE is still up and running.

UPDATE 2: The email we received from WhiteHouse.gov states that we violated their terms of service because "the petition advertises or calls for the endorsement or purchase of commercial goods or services," in which it no way did. It calls for a celebration of a unique aspect of our culture. We will be appealing this decision.

It's only allowed when Hallmark does it, you plebe.

Well, the death star is in line with Obama's plans for destroying the country. :)

I'd rather see a National Hero Exchange with Malta.

We could send the Kardashians away, and Malta could send us Goosio.

On the one hand, I really like MST3K. On the other, this is a really stupid petition and I'm glad it died a quick and painless death.

On the gripping hand, by this time, my lungs are gasping for air.

Sorry subby, but nobody is taking a petition to build a Death Star seriously.

Well, it kind of endorses the show in general, which was a commercial product, whether your intentions are to solely honor the creators or what have you. Stop being a whiny douche.

Shhh, humor Subby.  The dream of an orbital battle station from which to strike down his enemies is probably only thing keeping him out of a bell tower.
