I wonder if we'll get a trailer for the first one before the sequel comes out.

So we're speculating on Marvel's release schedule prior to them announcing it?

Is this going to be another one like with Pixar ? Just because Cars 2 only made ninety twelve million profit instead of ninety fifty million profit everyone started saying they'd jumped the shark.

Not surprised. James Gunn is an awesome director.

Kinda looking forward to this one.  Are the comics any good?  If so, where's a good place to start?

There was a new series that just just started last year whose sole purpose seems to be getting people up to speed for the movie.  It's only on issue...11(?) right now so you may as well start at the beginning. It uses the same cast of characters as will be in the movie, plus Iron Man.  I like it.  Some die-hards are grumbling about how the books portray Drax, but I don't know enough about the characters' histories to get that worked up about it.

I'm already too good to see this unannounced, unmade sequel.

I'm a huge fan of Ultimate Spiderman. The episode featuring Guardians of the Galaxy was not only fantastic, it completely sold me on the idea of the live-action movie. It didn't hurt that Billy West voiced the Raccoon and Michael Clarke Duncan was Groot. Sadly, Duncan is no longer with us, which is a shame because he would have been a great Groot in the live-action.

If this upcoming movie is as good as that episode, and I suspect it will be much, much better, then I'll be very happy.

The problem with Drax is that his power levels change so much...and that's saying a lot when it comes to Marvel.  He at one point had omega level powers to go toe to toe with Thanos, and then he's just a brute.  I think at one point he could even fly.

And yeah, I say that, knowing that Chuck Austen at one point gave Havok the ability to fly (ugh, his era was the worst).

The new serious is pretty good, and a little more light hearted than the previous, keeping in line with what looks like the tone of the movie.

god, that show is surprisingly good.  started watching on netflix and, while it has some "kiddie" issues, damn it's a good show.  it's like they WANT to do something good with Spidey.

f*ck the current run. Bendis should be nowhere near GotG.

Invest some time and (legally, just like I did, really) download the Cosmic run
Use the keywords "Marvel Cosmic Events Annihilation" on your totally legal search parameter. You'll find some of the best comics Marvel produced in the 2000s, and find out exactly why the Guardians got so Popular.
Additionally, look for Nova and the Guardians series itself.

Trust me, it's worth the time and "money" to get these books.

Not big into the recent spate of movies based on superhero comics, but Chris Pratt is awesome in Parks and Recreation, and I like Science Fiction as a general rule.

Looking forward to this.

I loved his reason for losing all that weight in P&R:

I just stopped drinking beer and lost like 50 pounds in a month.

The thing with Drax is that his power doesn't really change (until the Annihilation revamp) but his power levels ramp up in response to the threat he was created to fight against.

He was created by other Eternals to destroy Thanos.  His ability is to tap into as much cosmic energy as he needs to survive and match whatever powers Thanos has, in order to achieve that goal.  (Personal power that is, the Infinity Gauntlet doesn't count for that comparison).  The closer he gets to that goal, the more powerful he is as a result.   In some ways he was a pseudo-Eternal (with the ability to manifest different powers as needed, including flight).

Mild Spoiler: Even after his character was re-born into a saber/machete wielding bad-ass, he evidently could still respond to the presence of Thanos in the same way as before.

The new serious is pretty good, and a little more light hearted than the previous, keeping in line with what looks like the tone of the movie.

I see if more as dark humor than light-hearted,  they know they're considered criminals and malcontents by most of the people they are trying to help, but they also know they are good enough to take on the real bad guys, but don't take themselves any more serious than the absurd situations they face.  (at least that is my take from the comics).

The Guardians are introduced during one big honking story arc, theres only 25 issues of their title, but if you JUST read those, you might be a little lost. But the good news is that all of it is pretty great. Except for Darkhawk, but i farking hate Darkhawk. "Hey, you know what our sweeping epic space saga needs? Some human teenage angst!"

Seriously worth a read. Theres a pretty good torrent of all of it on a certain nautical themed website named "Marvel.6.Cosmic.Events.Annihilation.(thru).Annihilators.(2004-20", i recommend Comicrack for windows or android for reading, havent used the iOS version.

I'll disagree, mostly. The first was good, the second was excellent. The third was, well, the weird cousin who no one talks about because they sit at home all day playing with their self and torturing small animals.

Now Batman and Robin is about the lowest you can go in Batman, super hero, and movies in general.

Ghost Rider is worse.  Fact is that Batman And Robin is actually a fun watch if you go with the fact that it is basically camp.  Everyone looks like they are having a great time in the film.  Yes, it is a terrible movie, but it IS a fun watch.  Hollywood just really didn't know what to do with these kinds of movies yet.
