Stupid shiats are just making it worse for people old enough to buy it.

But hell I knew a lot of people that drank during class in high school. Half the football players carried those opaque water bottles filled with whatever liquor was available. And while kids should NOT be smoking, at least it's better than pretty much any other alternative out there.

Yes, you will have these problems with some people, and you will treat them the same way that you treat people who are caught doing anything they're not supposed to be doing.  Legalization has nothing to do with enforcing rules that should already be in place (and from the article it sounds like they already are).

/Shiatheads gonna be shiatheads.

"Pens that come with capsules with weed in them, melts the plastic and cooks the weed," said Tim Martinez, Lakewood High campus security supervisor.

It's good to know the local authorities understand the technology.  It's party time, let's inhale some toxic fumes from the melted plastic.

Instead of labeling "spiffy", shouldn't it be "spliffy"?

Yea...they should really insist whoever is in charge of speaking to the media isn't over the age of 40. Why on earth would anyone with half a brain believe that's how they actually work?

I do believe that was the intent.

The worst part is that even if he is a fuddy old dude... vaporizers are centuries old technology and were incredibly common during the 60s and 70s when fuddy old dudes grew up.  It's only the miniaturization that's new, the actual tech is still basically steampunk-era.

Aw come on. You stupid little assholes need to knock that shiat off. Weed will NEVER get legalized if you can't manage to cut class to get high like your parents did.

Colorado resident here, been debating this topic all day on our local newspapers' site gazette.com.

This article is purely hyperbole, sensationalism  and yellow journalism all jammed up in one article and passed off as news.

Possession of marijuana by minors is illegal, possession of marijuana on school property is a felony. The article talks about kids using vape pens in school, but show no true evidence other then anecdotal quotes from students. Where are the kids being arrested?

The resource officer quoted does not even have a clue how vape pens work, but he is being presented as the expert.

Sadly this is a daily occurrence here in Colorado now that marijuana use and purchase is legal for ADULTS. Sensationalist headlines, zero actual journalism, and zero facts. Just 'experts' with opinions presented as news....

Oh.....

Yeah, I thought the melted plastic part sounded suspicious. Aside from inhaling it how the hell are you supposed to clean it out afterwards?

In my high-school, the men's room in the Secondary 4 section was where the student smoke pot and hash. There is no way the teachers and direction did not know about it as the smell was quite pronounced. Cutting class was also no big deal. That was in 1979/1980 and I understand from my nephews and nieces that the direction was a bit more severe when they went there.

Some asshole politician blames the teachers for it in 3...2...1...

Vape pens, marijuana, and kids...

I love watching pseudo-libertarians suddenly start supporting taxes and regulations as part of getting what they want. Maturity is a biatch.

Do you doubt that it happens?

If not, then it's just a matter of degree as to how much it happens.

Is it an argument for changing the law?  That's a matter of opinion of course, but I don't think so.   I think they should crack down on individual cases and try to find out who is supplying the kids and ram them up the ass with charges.

2 of my nephews got to Lakewood High School.  Reprazent!  They dont smoke weed yet.  But before weed was med or legal here High Schools were pretty much the weed dispensaries.  People are acting like "stoners" didnt exist before now.  The only real difference is vaporizers don't give off the telltale smell so you don't have to go outside to get high.   Know what the real problem is?  Synthetic Heroin.  Prescription drugs kill many times more kids than all illegal drugs combined.  Address that shiat and let the kids have their booze and weed like they have since.. well time began.

In my high school, the "drug rehab" room was where kids would go to cut class and get high. It was an unused music room at the end of a hallway, behind the auditorium. One of the soundproof practice rooms had been outfitted with a stereo, couches, and posters all over the walls. Close the door, blast the stereo, get smoked.

Supposedly, there was supposed to be a teacher in charge of the place, giving counseling. But none ever showed up, so anarchy reigned.

Since the article writer couldn't bother with a simple google search here is a good guide to vape pens if you're curious.

I prefer flowers and my bong but if you need stealth these are the way to go.

Yeah, all libertarians are against all taxes and regulations just like all Democrats are socialist welfare state pacifists who want to completely disband the military and all Republicans want to conscript all males between the ages of 18 and 30 and execute anyone who doesn't attend church regularly and just for good measure anyone who is not white.

As a former High School student and native Coloradoian, no, I dont doubt it at all, however I do doubt the hyperbolic frequency alleged by the article and other 'news' reports hitting the airwaves here in Colorado.

The hand wringing and cries of the sky falling by the anti-marijuana lobby here in Colorado are deafening right now, it's very hard to sift though truth and BS

For a teenager, it was a little slice of heaven in the middle of a world of suckage.

Heh, one of the regulars was a kid who'd shoplift lunch for us every day from the cafeteria. He had this big army coat, and he'd take people's orders before he went to get the stuff.

Williams is clean now and he's been allowed to return to school.

That must have been hard, and the man is clearly an inspiration to us all with how he was able to overcome the relentless physiological assault that marijuana addiction can do to you and become clean as a result.

"How'd you do it? How'd you get clean?" "I played video games and visited facebook instead of smoking pot." "Oh my god, that sounds horrible."

nice.  Our cafeteria sucked so we had to smoke on the way to the circle K a couple blocks away and shoplift our lunch from there.  Once we got cars one of my friends left his boat of a car open in the lower parking lot so we could at least sit down and listen to music like civilized people.  Your set up would have blown our savage little minds.

In high school we'd just go to our car, heat up the lighter, sprinkle on weed, then catch he smoke rolling off it. Kids these days and their new fangled paraphernalia.

1979, freshman year in a high school of 3,000 kids.

In auto shop, check. (blow your smoke up the exhaust hoses)
Art class way in the back near the windows, check.
Making bowls in metals class and woodshop (and selling them), check.
Gym locker room second period (with my buddy who is now the police chief), check
Getting stoned with the photography teacher, check.

2014-02-06 11:07:45 PM
I vaguely remember keeping my bookbag on top of my desk, sticking my head in to take a hit, then again a few seconds later to blow it out. And then watching the smoke seep through the fabric.

Bullshiat: If you have any raw weed on you, I can smell you across the room.  Many people can unless they smoke cigarettes or are completely unaware and have no ability to distinguish smells. (like some cat owners who can't tell the house stinks)

You can smell it through an aluminum cigar container?

A lot of people who carry weed on them do not carry it in a ziploc.

Yep, the pants-wetters are still trying really hard to convice everyone that "They made a BIG mistake when they voted for A64!".  Are there people who will abuse the system as a result?  Absolutely, but that is no reason to throw out the baby with the bath water.

We have a local pair of strident pants-wetters.  Oddly, at least one of them DOES wear depends.  She's obsessed, but her letters and editorials to the paper are such a masterpiece of disjointed writing, her message is lost in the convolutions.

In the mean time, no zombie hordes, no massive increase in traffic accidents, no psychos wandering the 16th street mall - well, no more than the usual in that case...

And I'm shocked to hear teens are getting stoned in high school, cause like that's never happened before...ah, well, OK, it was in the early 70's when I was there, no reason to assume thing have changed much...

This is ridiculous right here. A farking felony for a teenager to have weed on school grounds? I hate all these farking laws that make a crime worse because of where you do it, or who you do it to. Drug free zones, gun free zones, "hate" crimes, the list goes on and farking on.

Is this a reprint from 1995? Or maybe even 1965? I remember the smell of weed in class more than once. We had a few teachers who seemed oblivious, or maybe they just didn't give a shiat. Kids would sit in back next to the window and take a hit when the teacher left the room. Never did it myself, but I was certainly aware of it happening more than once.
