CSB:

So, I go to a fair number of Capitals games and in the 10+ years I've been going, the same two guys have been driving the zambonis.  One guy often has a kid or a person riding along with him but the other guy never does.  I need to find whatever list you need to be on to get to do ride along, that looks like fun.

Own? No.

Drive? YES! Every game I go to, I always wonder if it's as fun as it looks.
The P-Bruins crew is always smiling but that could be the booze.

Reality:   Demographic research reveals that hockey fans are younger, more affluent, and better educated on average than fans of the other major North American sports leagues.

According to league data, the average household income (HHI) for NHL fans is $104,000, highest of the four major sports with Major League Baseball ($96,200), the NBA ($96,000), and the NFL ($94,500). Sixty-eight percent of NHL fans have attended college, more than the other three sports (ranging 60.4 percent to 63.6 percent). And 64 percent of NHL fans hold full-time jobs, also more than the others (57-58.1 percent).

I regularly go for beers with a buddy of mine and some of his co-workers.

One guy is best friends with former NHLer Nolan Baumgartner.

He has amazing hockey stories. I could sit and listen for hours.

Your point is totally true. They're just regular guys.

Those must be data for ticket buyers, right? Median household income in the US is way lower than any of those figures.

The year the NHL banned alcohol (beer) in the room after games was the year Shanahan retired.

Coincidence?!?

\although I think that ban has since been lifted.
\\or at least no teams/arenas enforce it.

There's a housing developper near my place who bought someone's unused field to convert into a residential street, but his project never got off the ground, so in the end, he build himself a huge mansion with a tennis court in the back.  In winter he makes an ice rink on it and has an old zamboni to take care of it.

I can't remember if it was a local minor league team or a local college team here in the Denver area, but one night a fan won/bought a shift on the zamboni between periods.

Damn near put it into the wall the very first turn. They let him do about two complete turns then had the regular driver take over because otherwise the intermission would have been 30 minutes instead of 20.

In other words, it's not rocket science, but apparently not as easy as it looks either.

Ohhh, yeah.  I just thought I would pop into this hockey thread to see if anyone wanted to talk about it.  It was really strange.  The quality of play in the NBA is really impressive right now.  I only see the the ratings going up from here.  What a game.

Nah, really I think the league is on its way to the top.  It may even pass College Football if it keep trending in this direction.  I know, I know, it sounds like a dream but I really think they can do it.  I mean just think about it.  They have the big TV contracts.  The big stars.  They are popular all over the country.  It is a sport that can be played by people of any socioeconomic background. The AAU leagues may be getting in the way of the competition, and the less prominent role of the college game is certainly a concern, but golly is game good right now.  With OKC and Indiana, not ot mention Portland, coming into their own, we may get a new champ crowned this year.  Here is hoping, ya know?

Meh, I don't need a Zamboni.

When I get a few thousand dollars to blow on one, and have a rec room to put it in, I'm getting a quality bubble hockey table like one of these.
