It's not cancelled, it's just on very shaky ground right now.

Via Vulture: UPDATE: An NBC rep notes that Fox "is not cancelled. We are looking for a place on the schedule after April 3."

You can't go back to the past.

All a-tremble to hear the verdict?

Hey, Fox's son is not only a ringer, but looks to be at least five-seven.

2014-02-06 01:26:47 PM
I'm sure he's shaken up about it.

2014-02-06 01:30:43 PM
This may be horrible, but I just couldn't watch it.  It might have been funny, I don't know, but I just didn't want to be wondering if I'm laughing at him or with him.

Maybe that makes me the real anti-disease guy or whatever, but I just couldn't get thru the first commercial break of the first two episodes.

2014-02-06 01:36:46 PM
I love Michael J. Fox but I couldn't bring myself to watch that show. Seeing him with Parkinson's is upsetting as he is firmly ensconced into my childhood. Back to the Future is a weekly watch thanks to my 3 year old boy. It's his favourite movie.

2014-02-06 01:37:57 PM
Yeah, I gave up 3 episodes in when I figured, good for him for working, but I would just rather be watching a rerun of something I enjoy.

2014-02-06 01:39:58 PM
The show wasn't funny or entertaining. Nostalgia/guilt can only carry a show so far...

2014-02-06 01:42:10 PM
It was painfully bad. I couldnt make it 5 mins. His parkinsons unfortunately ruins his acting ability, apparently. Quite the opposite of the sun on breaking bad,

Sun, son, whatever

2014-02-06 01:43:38 PM
Married... With Children?

/not a repeat from 1987

2014-02-06 01:46:59 PM
Two episodes and I was done. The writing and pacing of the show was terrible.

I only made it that far because I expected to see Fox scold his wife over the difference between rocks and minerals.  And it didn't happen.

2014-02-06 01:47:59 PM
'Painfully uncomfortable to watch' is the best summary I could think of.

2014-02-06 01:50:32 PM
Eh, it just wasn't very good.  The writing just was not funny or interesting.

2014-02-06 02:15:24 PM
It wasn't nearly as toxic as Dads or Sean Saves the World, but when your lead in is Parks and Rec, you have to get your shiat together. It wasn't very good. Of course, NFL Thursdays just killed off any and all programming on Thursdays of any kind in the early fall. Probably the death knell for Must See TV, RIP.

2014-02-06 02:18:23 PM
Bring back Spin City. I'm game for that.

2014-02-06 02:30:42 PM
This might mean that, somehow, "Community" inches closer to its sixth season (and a movie?).

Yeah it I was happy for him to get backinto actng but even then the show sucked

2014-02-06 02:47:37 PM
heh.  and to think doc brown came back from the future to warn Marty about his farking KIDS.

Think he might have mentioned the Parkinson's, and then went back to the future for a cure.

Let's have Marty re-shoot some scene for scene remake of his "old marty" scenes and insert them into BTTF2.

Now THAT is some special edition tinkering I could get behind.

I'm trembling over this.

/Seriously, NBC should cancel NBC

thegod082: This might mean that, somehow, "Community" inches closer to its sixth season (and a movie?).

It is entirely possible. "Community" is reliably pulling a 1.1 demo, which is abysmal compared to stuff like "Big Bang" (5.1), but by NBC standards, it's a damn sight better than MJFox (0.7) and "Sean Saves the World" (0.6). It's in the same ballpark as "Parks and Rec" (1.2) and "Parenthood" (1.2). If you go strictly by the numbers, cancelling "Community" because of its ratings would require cancelling NBC's entire existing comedy slate. TV By the Numbers has "Community" as a "tossup" for renewal at this point.

I've been watching it mostly because of Mrs. Hillbilly. I am not particularly bothered by watching his obvious struggles to deal with Parkinson's, although the jokes about it were getting repetitive. The problem is that it just isn't a very good show and suffers from identity issues. It's structured and advertised as a family sitcom, but some of the jokes and behaviors of the main characters are fairly extreme for that genre. Perhaps even worse than the writing is the lack of chemistry amongst the actors.

I get the reference, but don't get the connection.

I never saw this show, but the Curb episode where Larry shushes MJF then can't tell if the shaking head at him or it's a "Parkinson's shake" was hilarious.

Same actress.  It was impossible to watch that show for any length of time and not think it was some sort of Marie spin-off.

Loved Breaking Bad.

farking Hate the Marie character.

Ugh. The son on breaking bad almost ruined the series for me.

Good. Maybe then he'll go back to being the villain on The Good Wife. He was good at that.

You know I slipped in the tub one day and hit my head, and then had an idea of how to get past that... but then I forgot it 'cause I got high.
/not really decided where I wanted to take that post

How can they tell the ratings are bad if it hasn't been released on Netflix streaming yet?

He is. I just read it on TVLine.

"TVLine has learned that Fox has closed a deal with the CBS drama to reprise his role as Alicia's legal nemesis Louis Canning for multiple, season-ending episodes."

Community is making NBC and Sony money nowadays since it hit syndication. NBC wants to keep it.

Good. This season has been nothing short of brilliant.5

I was hoping for a comment from Michael.  I wanted to know what the Fox says

2014-02-06 07:03:56 PM
Not EVERY joke has to be about your Parkinson's.

2014-02-06 07:27:51 PM
Wow, this cancellation is clearly an ideological victory for the folks in the comments section.

NBC is so clever, they outFoxed themselves.

2014-02-06 09:19:55 PM
My image of NBC is that of a fish pulled out of the hole and thrown on the ice.  Flopping around suffocating not knowing what to do.

2014-02-06 09:49:40 PM
Because watching a guy you remember from your childhood struggle with a chronic illness is frickin' hilarious.

2014-02-06 10:07:24 PM
Well...at least they gave the show a fair shake.

//got nuthin

2014-02-06 10:55:13 PM
They should do an episode where he signs up for Obamacare.

2014-02-07 05:35:46 AM
People want to laugh when they watch sitcoms, not feel bad and be depressed.
