What is the difference between Republicans and Jesus?

Jesus loves prostitutes AND tax collectors.

I wouldn't say he "loved" tax collectors, he just didn't mind them. He was also a big believer in the separation of church and state.

That's because they worship the almighty dollar, not their "Lord" and "Savior" Jesus Christ.

You know, the main character got angry ONCE in the entire book, and it was about money in the temple. How the hell do you square that with the prosperity gospel?

It was a Jewish temple.  Money in Christian churches' is completely kosher.

Honestly that one isn't that hard. It wasn't necessarily about money per se it was that secular business had been allowed to infest the Holy Temple, so that people either weren't there for the proper reasons (worship) and, those that were there to worship were distracted by the noise of those conducting business transactions. People in megachurches are all there for worship, the grounds they are on aren't the Holy Temple. It just so happens that instead of animal sacrifices, people now sacrifice their wealth to show devotion.

In fact, it looks likely that debt limit negotiations will be decidedly less tense this time around, with Republicans already signaling that they want no part of a partisan showdown.

Hey guys just because Jesus says you should help the poor that's no reason  for the government to force everyone to do it.

You know it's not like right wingers want to do things like ban gay marriage or abortion because they believe the bible tells them so... oh wait.

I

don't subscribe to any view of Jesus, but the question was how do you reconcile the two. Dogmatically that is one of the less challenging conundrums, unlike "why do you think this line in Leviticus is important, but that one over there isn't?"

The only time he's angered to violence against *OTHER PEOPLE* is with the moneychangers.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) acknowledged the difficulties he currently faces in crafting a bill that can placate the conservatives in his caucus. If he were to attach a provision to the debt ceiling calling Mother Teresa a saint, he said, he "probably couldn't get 218 Republican votes."

Your Tea Party tail is wagging the dog, Johnny. Has been for some time.  Might want to do something about that.

Obama seems to have done a pretty good job of uniting the House Republicans....against him.  And they even agree on that point with their "most divisive president EVAR" rhetoric.  Ergo, by their own admission, Obama > Jesus.

That is honestly the closest thing to a cogent, reasonable argument that I've seen.  The "prosperity doctrine" is still blasphemous and evil (IMHO), but-bravo!
