Should've had a xanax or two to calm them down.

Pretty good indicator that I'm not fully awake yet: my first thought upon reading the headline was "Who orders bulk Cheetos by mail?"

I have always thought that cheeba generally referred to hash.

And I'm a middle-aged white man living in the suburbs, so you know I'm hep to the terminology.

Thank God they got such a menace off the streets. He certainly earned a long prison sentence for such a heinous crime.

Meanwhile, on Wall Street...

So it was the smell that tipped the postal employees, not the impatient caller. Surely subby could've worked in 'cheeba' with an accurate headline.

Cheeba is pretty common slang for weed. There is a whole line of THC treats called cheeba chews:

There's probably a healthy overlap of the two population sets that would do either of those things.

Im still trying to figure out how his impatience led the post office to call the police.  When it showed up, the article says it reeked of marijuana.  If a package shows up and smells like pot, do they typically just send it on if the recipient has not called beforehand looking for it?

Which, assuming the ingredients are listed in order by volume, is mostly sweeteners with more flavorings than THC

How many milligrams of THC do you think belong in a piece of candy the size of a tootsie roll?

It wasn't his impatience that tipped him off. It was that the package SMELLED LIKE POT.

Yesterday, we were calling it 'smoking the fish.'

Cheeba is certainly acceptable... this is a kind of progress, it's Fark Progress™

Nobody in here has seen Half Baked?

Samson makes perfectly cromulent use of the term on more than one occasion I believe.

The word cheeba is interesting so I tried to find out where it came from, aka its etymology.

Apparently it is a type of strong, dark, very oily Brazilian marijuana. The source of this information links it to ciba, pronounced cheeba, a pharmaceutical company that merged to eventually become Novartis (although the company name may be a pun or joke on an earlier meaning of the word).

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061205184838AAZJ4ye

In Central America cheeba may be derived from chiva meaning "bad boy", while it is also juvenile slang for "pop", which is duplicated in the phrase cheeba cheeba, or "pop pop". The gum shown above is probably named "cheeba" because kids blow bubbles which "pop".

The likely source for the word is probably a combination of several portuguese or spanish usages.

Perhaps nobody knows which of these is the "true" etymology.

Here's the link to this information, which also has a surprising explanation for the origin of Chivas Regal Scotch:

http://www.gormogons.com/2011/08/etymological-ruminations.html

This raises another possible origin, namely that cheeba may be derived from the French word chivas, and thus mean "the real shiat". If this explanation is right, Brantgoose has uncovered an unknown etymology which needs more study and should be recorded by etymologists at their earliest possible convenience.

What do you think? Is Brantgoose a scholar and a genius strong in the Google Fu or what?

The band Morcheeba takes its name from Middle of the Road cheeba, or mediocre shiat according to Wikipedia..

The word cheeba is not new to me, despite the fact that I am a non-smoker and about as square and middle-aged as they come, thanks to African American music and culture. I love Funk and funky music, and various terms for marijuana are definitely funky. So I know cheeba and sensa (sensamilla) and a lot of funky terms.

Black slang is extremely inventive, rich and ingenious. Since it is partly a type of argot, a made up cover language designed to mystify the Man, the African American vernacular is in constant motion--words disappear from hip usage as soon as Whitey catches on.

Puns and word play make up a very large part of the language and some of these are absolutely brilliant. If you listen to lyrics (which very few people do) the songs are usually all about drugs, sex, and music.

Mind you Country and Western music is all about booze, adultery and C&W, while rock and roll is all about sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Black music is Ovid's Art of Love (and seduction) translated into song.

It may be my imagination but there are words and phrases in some song that may be replaced by half a dozen sound-alikes at the whim of the singer or hearer.

Take for example "Me and Little Brother".

What the fark is the song saying?

Is it:

I love my little brother
I love like little brother
I love my baby mother
love like little brother (imperative)
come like little brother

And what the heck is that the narrator of the song did with Little Brother? They were close, but how close?

My guess is all that and a bag of potato chips as the black people were saying about a thousand years ago.

Listening to the lyrics sure ruins a lot of my favourite songs. But I am willing to give this one a seal of approval for being damned good. I like WAR. One of the best from the West.

Around these parts (where Cheeba Chew is sold) a dose is considered 20mg of THC.  Thus the quad dose pictured should contain 80mg of THC.  Cheeba Chew also comes as a deca-dose.  I'll let you do the math on that one.

I thought people stopped saying 'cheeba' back in the mid-70's. Hell, last time I can remember hearing it was when I was reading Burroughs' 'Junkie' back in 8th grade.
