Damn, that gal needs a sammich.
Or a box of Tagalogs.

I gave it another try to try and help Drew out.

Why does the new blonde girl keep sneering? The delivery is better than the "oh God someone put me in front of a camera! Noooo" guy they had previously but... the delivery is still lacking. It's still hovering somewhere around high school kids playing around with a video camera and a video editing program. There's still a lot of split-second camera cuts and I kept getting distracted by the woman's right side of her face sneering randomly. Is it a twitch?

I appreciate that you're trying to do something different with Fark but... it reminds me of high school kids (or first year film students) trying to copy The Soup.

Let's be serious for a moment, who hasn't wanted to pull a gun on a girl scout after seeing the price for those cookies?

I'll bet you're going to complain this summer when Fark rolls out the tiled-UI some of us have been user testing.

Anticipating a War Games like conclusion to this thread, allow me to fast-forward through the discussions of WTFark's baby steps and sidebar the occasional "compare/contrast reddit and Fark."

Fark reddit. How anyone can read that illegible gobbledy-gook, I don't understand. The comments on Fark are the best part.  So Fark wins, with or without video content.  Fark superior.  Reddit inferior. The end.

To capture the attention of the young folks, with their iTubes and RoboPhones and always a watching the shiny moving objects on the screen.

I liked it. And funnily enough, the first thing I did NOT think about when view the video was that the girl was too skinny.

Quick show of hands, who here needs to see a video where they talk about an actual news story that we all could have clicked on and read for ourselves?

2014-02-05 03:44:09 PM
The other issue again is that Fark itself isn't funny. The people who use it are. You wouldn't expect a comedy club owner and the wait staff to do good stand up, would you?

I chuckled at the shriek especially, and a couple other times. But I don't get the WTFark hate, neither for FarkTV.

I don't dig WTFark, but I do respect the effort.  Besides, if Fark didn't try new things, who knows where we'd be?  We'd probably all be speaking the goddamned Dutch.

AgentKGB: I gave it another try to try and help Drew out.

Me, too.  This is the last time, though.  It's just FarkTV, steadfastly refusing the more-or-less dignified death that is obviously too good for it.  Enough is enough.

CSB:

I was in the theatre to see the Hulk (2003) movie the day it came out. We'd just gotten into our seats when this local tv  news crew comes in. (Producer, Cameraperson, assistant). The producer goes up to the front, claps her hands and tells us that we're going to help each other out. She needs a minute or two of footage of really really excited people who are chomping at the bit to see this movie and in exchange we'll get free stuff.  So people did Hulk impressions, did the wave, cheered, hammed it up etc.

That's what this woman's delivery reminds me of. Someone put in front of a camera and told to "act wacky!"

Did you get anything cool?

WTFark is really stupid by the way

I'd murder for Somoans, but 4.50 a box? Wally world knock offs are 2 bucks a box. And to the cries of "You're forcing us to raise money other ways" is the same to me as the tobacco industry claiming I'm denying them income. All I have to say is "Waaaa!"

WTF is happening to that woman's lips?

Seriously, she should see a doctor.

Constructive criticism:

• I got that the other ones were trying to do, highlighting Farker comments about a story, but this one doesn't even do that. This is just "there was a funny story in the news, and we did a 'recreation' of it." That's not really funny, or clever, or anything really. What was the goal of this one?

• The "recreation" itself was a one-joke concept, based on an extremely shopworn and cliched "Taxi Driver" clip. It is as lazy an idea as I could possibly imagine. If this is what "Fark" is supposed to be like, I would assume it's full of people spouting out of date catchphrases and extremely obvious, uncreative "jokes." If I saw that clip on something like Conan, I'd assume that the joke was "here was a comedy writer who just gave up on trying to be funny."

• I agree with the poster above that the host had a weirdly transfixing way of speaking out of the side of her mouth. No offense to her -- she was perfectly understandable -- but it was distracting.

• Enough with the jump cuts and pans in front of a green screen. These crappy production effects will date videos like this as emblematic of the '00s, as much as star wipes and fuzzy black-and-white slow-motion invariably dates things to the '80s. Save the money you spend on close-up reshoots and editing time and use it to pay for an actual set.

This could approach the popularity of AUDIOEDITS.

Never forget.
