James!: Nobody gives a shiat where you are.
sigdiamond2000: Even in these idiotic "off the grid" reality shows they're always waiting for some helicopter or train to drop off their supplies. How is that "going of the grid?"You're just living in the middle of nowhere and waiting on people to bring you sh*t. You're not "living off the grid."
vudukungfu: I have a lot of friends who live off the grid. I see them sometimes but once a year.Like at the 4th of july parade.Or the big town dance.
Begoggle: "I'm not only creating jobs, putting Mexicans to work, I'm stopping them from running across the border now and taking our jobs"HAHAHAHA I'm surprised major corporations never used this argument for why they ship jobs overseas.I guess it's even too stupid for them.
wildcardjack: One family "off the grid" might survive until supplies run out, but it's not enough people to remain off the grid.Small villages tended towards 100-150 people. This gave enough diversified labor to develop talents in baking, butchering, and candle stick making. The specialization of skills in a society improved life for all involved. Even if he tried to learn all the skills he'd still have to do all of them all the time.Simply put, self sufficiency is a poverty trap or a lie.
Carn: Why's he hiding from drones? He aint got time to bleed.
rumpelstiltskin: If I was afraid of drones I sure as hell wouldn't surround myself with brown people.
hailin: I have friends who got in trouble for going "off the grid". The only reason they did it was to avoid spending $180k to run electricity to their property. Apparently the rules for the property dictated power to be run to the property. They got sued for about $50k from the original owner. He really just wanted them to incur the costs he could sell the other properties the electric would need to be run through to getto their property for a premium. Still they signed the documents so they were responsible. Now they need to spend $230k for electric and fines.TL/DR: Read the fine print on the property you by before going off-grid.
studebaker hoch: Same goes for anything."I'm going to start exercising""I'm going to eat better food""I'm going to quit smoking/drinking/smack"Show us, don't tell us.
pizen: Or when the Wells Fargo wagon comes to town.
Evil Mackerel: I think Les Stroud still has a place that he can sell him./Unless he lost it in the divorce.
Nadie_AZ: He's using a satellite phone and broadcasting his show. They could find him fairly easily.Just remember how they found Pablo Escobar back in the 90s.
