To all you ex-Mormans that had to deal with shame and abuse and unpleasant bullshiat, my heart goes out to you.

To you jerks that are trying to faith-shame them for describing their experience as less than enjoyable, you guys are farking tools and you're the ones who should feel ashamed. You are poor representatives of your faith and you make Mormonism look not just stupid, but ugly.

/I used to work for a big Mormon family, some of them were cool, some of them were jerks, all of them were judgmental authoritarians and had weird guilt issues.

furterfan: PunGent:  Yeah, the Mormon belief system is weird, but no weirder than most other religions, once you drill down far enough.

As an Ex-mo, I would tend to disagree. their farked up belief system screws up people's private lives. Bishops have private, one-on-one, behind locked door interviews with male and female youth and routinely ask personal questions about masturbation and sexual activity. they take 10% of your income and - as far as I can find out - are the only religion in the world who will deny a parent seeing their children get married, unless the said parents are church members AND HAVE PAID THEIR 10%.

the. only. religion.in.the.world
who will separate friends and family from a wedding ceremony
evil, vile cult

The youth thing sounds similar to Catholic confession, but did not know the other stuff...interesting.

The bishop's position in the mormon church is similar to a catholic priest, but he is untrained lay clergy.
He will have no training in any kind of counselling (except by coincidence, if it overlaps with his day job)

Mormon 'Bishops' will have their interviews in their offices and  will expressly ask about sexual activity, rather than waiting for a person to confess.
This is common for boys and girls from age 11 upwards.

there is no 'confidence of the confessional' as in catholic churches and anything you say may well be discussed with other (lay) members of the local chapel
