Tarkus: OMG, and I thought it sucked ass before.

I gotta second this...

Unlike Fark, NBCNews.com is highly fungible.

Clemkadidlefark: Now I understand what a hot mess means ..

Maybe you can donkey punch someone over at NBC.  Oh, wait....That's another thread.

Won't even load without javascript enabled.

// it's not even a good tiled interface.

You want a good tiled interface, look at feedly or pinterest.

I'm on a 24" monitor because I want to see lots of content ... how about we drop the size of these tiles.

2014-02-05 01:23:54 PM

Snuffybud: Won't even open in Firefox, all I get is a blank page.

Opens okay for me in Firefox. Man, is it ever ugly! You're not missing anything, buddy.

I remember when pages only looked like that when someone broke their web code.  I'd take an old Geocities site over Win8-inspired garbage.  I don't need my internet experience to look like a tablet.

2014-02-05 01:38:47 PM
Did they offshore their website design to Elbonia and send Wally over to supervise?

2014-02-05 01:42:57 PM

violentsalvation: That is pretty awful. Windows 8 awful.

That was my first thought and last look....

Not as bad as msnbc but still pretty awful.

If this is what they're all moving to why not just bring back LIFE and LOOK?

2014-02-05 02:05:39 PM
So, a couple of years of tablets and we are gonna jump whole sale into this design? Gonna look dated in another two years

It truly sucks farking big time. Typical NBC. Total dogshiat.

And needs a fungicide?

mr_a: Wellon Dowd: Great! Another UI that assume I can't read. I'm looking at you, Netflix.

This might be the final straw that keeps me from going to them for news. Any suggestions for a news site that treats me like an adult?

I NEVER thought I would say this, but try this one:

http://america.aljazeera.com/

Or this one?

Paper: Stories from NBC News

2014-02-05 03:07:43 PM
Done in one.

I played with it for about a minute trying to like it and failed. It might work well on a tablet, I guess.

2014-02-05 03:07:48 PM
The 'Latest' option isn't bad if you're the kind of person who reads everything (even if stories do repeat and hitting the back button from the articles you have to click to dumps you in topic-specific streams), but overall, yeah, complete clusterfark. Can't believe they ignored all the feedback about not knowing where to look and eyes bouncing all over the page. It is, however, great for disguising advertisements as content.

america.aljazeera.com ftw.

derpy: ITT: Responsive, visually appealing design SUCKS!!!!1!!

Defending, literally this design:

shirtsbyeric: [codinghorror.typepad.com image 784x439]

img.fark.net

...yes UI needed to change for touch and small screens but everyone has lost their shiat in trying to develop for mobile, completely forgetting what that looks like on a 25" monitor.  It felt like my eyes were trying to run away from what I was looking at.

I've been checking out msnbc/nbc news for years to get my US oriented news but when I saw this today I deleted the bookmark. Appreciate the tip for Al Jezeera. I figured I'd go pure bbc - but it's nice to have a bit of a mix.

I got so sick of weenie news sites that I wrote my own iOS newsreader app. Does have pics, but no ads and actual text. And it puts actual interesting stuff first. Named it NewsBrain, put it on the app store.

2014-02-05 04:15:55 PM
NBC: "We'll pay you $150k to redesign our website."
"AAAAAG! STOP!! WE''LL GIVE YOU $200K TO CHANGE IT BACK!!"

2014-02-05 04:18:09 PM
Apparently a monkey programmed visual barf.

Here's how you do a news-oriented site.

2014-02-05 04:30:42 PM
That... is really bad for the eyes.  In precisely the way opposite of a Hotblack Desiato stunt craft.

2014-02-05 04:40:36 PM
Wow...just wow.    Seriously, who the fark even thinks something like that is GOOD design?   And worse, who approved this?  Has to be a committee somewhere of people who never have used a computer before.

/Didn't know NBC had a separate news site.
//Definitely not going to the new one now.

2014-02-05 08:22:33 PM
Wow! Horrible design! Did anyone look at the source code? Its even worse! You are downloading 3 complete versions of the site. Noscript,

2014-02-05 09:53:26 PM
Seriously looks like the Healthcare.gov website designers found a new job at nbcnews.com.  What in the world were they thinking?  Oh, lets design our site to cater to the illiterate who only understand BIG pictures.  The only thing missing is the thick cardboard pages.  Looks an awful lot like the internet just threw up.

2014-02-05 10:21:42 PM
That was terrible, there wasn't even any music to listen to.

NBC News, brought to you by Scribbol

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: Hobodeluxe: they should give you the option to turn off the tablet version

Just download and install classic NBC news shell, and it will work just fine.

Abe - how do you go about that?  This is truly ugly!
