I don't get it. Super bowl half time stuff has always been lip synch pre-recorded stuff. Really, does any one expect a superbowl to have anything other than lipsynch stuff?

The outrage here is that flea didn't try to cover it correctly with a fake wire.

Pretty sure Prince's stuff was live.

Axl Rose, how relevant.

I thought the Bruno Mars performance was pretty great. The RHCP were okay for a bunch of geezers.

At least they didn't show up 2 hours late.

It's a crime against music, I tell you. It's almost as bad as wasting record company money by taking 17 years to put out an album, only to complain about its release because it "wasn't finished yet."

Wait - do I understand this correctly? Someone has a problem with a decision made by the NFL?

Just remember...the CIA used to pay Axel Rose's music to torture dictators in Nicaragua.

Axl's just jealous because prerecorded tracks refuse to work with him.

the Chilis were relevant before GnR.  The Chilis were relevant after GnR.  Perhaps we could also get a comment from Deee-Lite.

That was, at once, a coherent and witty comment from Asshole Rose.  What sort of drug could cause that level of frisson?

2014-02-05 01:33:41 AM
You mean we'll never get a "Thanks to the lame ass security I'm going home" moment at the SB, GNR?

2014-02-05 01:34:49 AM
I'm not going to white night lip syncing, but at least they were honest about what they did. Also, lol at Axl getting on his high horse about performance integrity. How many shows has that guy just not even showed up to over the years?

2014-02-05 01:37:05 AM
GNR has put out better music than RHCP. That's all I care about.

But nor was he playing outdoors in New Jersey where the weather was uncertain.  Under the same circumstances, he wouldn't have been live.  The only question is whether he would have still agreed to do it.

No way Prince was live. No wonder he's suing over concert videos.

Axl Rose is the Howard Hughes of rock.  He's insane but talented, he's frequently an asshole, but he's never boring.

One of the most beautful girls I ever went too school with was a girl called Sasha. In 7th grade, she had full out DD tits. She was also farking obsessed with Axl Rose, to the point of cutting his name into her arms. She was a loon. But like I said, gorgeous and huge farking titties. I often wonder what happened to her, but I can't for the life of me remember her last name.

Must be weird to do rehearsals knowing you're not going to actually play.

Vocals are always live.

Tracks are always pre-recorded.

NFL claims this is to cut down with errors and sound issues, but whatever, those are the rules if you want to do the super bowl. So the question comes down to that.

Evidently Axl would turn down doing the super bowl (if someone got high enough off of turpentine fumes to ask him to do it in the first place).

It was mentioned in the other thread on this subject, but Metallica was once given the opportunity to perform live at the AFC Championship game.  At first they were excited, but when they found out it wouldn't be a real live performance and the instruments would be pre-recorded, Metallica instead rented a flatbed truck and performed a free show in the parking lot before the game.

There's a clip of it here.

That's fine for Metallica, I don't think it particularly makes them more or less noble, but I can see why someone might disagree with that sentiment.

Anyway, my point (thinly veiled as it was) is that no one will ever ask Axl to do the super bowl, so until he has to face that decision, he should probably avoid the mocking. If he wants to say, "I wouldn't have done that." Then that's fine too, but we'll all snicker at him because that's like me saying, "I wouldn't have shagged Katy Perry like that, I would have done it like this instead."

I love GnR up through The Spaghetti incident but Axl is dead to me after he left to form his GnR cover band.

After reading his explanation, I think he purposely left it unplugged so the story would get out there and he wouldn't have the illusion of trying to fool anybody. I don't blame them, you can't pass up a Super Bowl gig and the NFL wouldn't have it any other way.

That said, I can't stand the lipsynch or air guitar stuff. Why spend the money to bring a band into the city, put them up in nice hotels and then play a recording? Just put a DJ out there and play the song, you're not fooling anybody.

2014-02-05 06:54:20 AM
That was somewhat amusing, but given his own performance history, he should have remained silent. /seen Axl throw a hissy fit and walk off the stage once while on tour with Metallica, and Faith no More. He didn't approve of his vocal on a new song, stormed off while Slash played a 20 minute solo, then returned demanding the band play the song again. Sigh

You do have to admit...

The mental image of Peyton Manning having to hear "Give It Away Now" during halftime is pretty hilarious.
