And I can't wait for the second season to start. Story has it's flaws, but entertaining as hell. I would have hoped to see more of Kate Mara though. Ifyouknowwhatimean.jpg

I know I'm not supposed to root for the main guy, but I do.  I want him to accomplish all of his evil goals and puppetry.  I know he can't win in the end, but I want him to so badly.

Just started Season 1 this week with the wife. We like it so far.

Glad to see it'll be going for a while.

Interesting. One of the producers did in an interview the other day and said there would probably not be a season 3 because spacey and whoever plays his wife both had a preference for movie overTV an wanted to go back to that.

Damn it Netflix - pick up Borgen already.

/better than House of Cards

It's official. 'House of Cards' fans that have been enjoying the first 2 seasons on Netflix have reason to cheer.

Someone has been enjoying season 2? It hasn't started yet.

One of the reasons it's so good is that they looked at the original (done 20 years ago in the UK) and fixed the biggest problem, which was that everyone but Urquhart was a cardboard cutout of a character.  By giving everyone else (especially his wife) depth, the show is much more interesting.

And no, it can't end well for FU, but it's like rooting for MacBeth or Richard III.

So is this show good? I might try it, Netflix certainly doesn't have a movie catalog to speak of. Although I do watch the X-Files, Archer and Psych.

Well fark yes.
The Spaceman is great and Kate Mara is nothing but fun in the sack.

IIRC, the main character in the BBC version becomes Prime Minister at the end and all of his enemies were eliminated.

Also, wasn't this thing only supposed to be two seasons?

He is only one step from the oval office, they must plan to drag this out so much it will lose it's appeal.

It has moments that are so cheesy you could dip your chips into it, but it's an entertaining political espionage and with Netflix'  model you can watch them all at your leisure.    We watched them all in one day when we were snowed in. Something has to  fill the void with Breaking Bad finito and Mad Men on hiatus.    It's certainly better than Homeland.

This is so awesome, I can't wait for Valentine's day for the second season. So glad it's renewed for a 3rd season. I wonder what long term goals they're looking at. Also I believe the writers have already begun writing a month ago.

They could do a season of him securing VP and cleaning up his tracks, a season of him scheming to get the president impeached and succeeding near the end of his term, then a season of him campaigning to win his own term.  End the series with his Inauguration.

No, but the series is just that.
A nice jaundiced look at the sewage treatment and packaging plant that is our political system.

She's got a great body, but something felt odd about her face. I couldn't figure it out. Then I watched an episode with the girlfriend and she said, "that woman looks like one of the monkeys off Planet of the Apes."

I can't unsee it now.

It's a good show, I watched every episode in nearly one sitting.

But I won't call it a BIG bag of fun unless there's a crossover episode with the Senators of Alpha House.

/or at least Bill Murray.

I don't know that I see a big difference.  A 13 episode season probably takes about four months to film, which is about what you'd spend doing a movie.  If they wanted to do movies, I don't see how House of Cards would stop them, unless they want to do a bunch of smaller parts in a lot of movies.

The writing, specifically for the Peter Russo character, was horribly lame. Russo's character was such an over-the-top pussy I had a hard time believing he was a Philly congressman. They should have had much more dirt on him besides being a drunk, crackhead. I actually didnt care if he died because pussy + stupid should equal death.

And although I like Kate Mara, in some scenes she seems out of place. I cant get past the fact that she looks like a high school kid instead of a savvy Washington reporter. Maybe Im just not into waif-ish looking actresses, but Bryce Howard or Sienna Miller would have been more believable in this role that requires sexiness and grit.

But Spacey, his wife, the dude from Simon and Simon and the guy who plays the President have all been ridiculously good.

I think Spacey took the role because it IS flexible.  He's been head of the Old Vic in London for years, but he needed to keep working movie jobs to keep the bills (mostly rent-boys) paid.  This means he doesn't have to keep waiting for big pay-days like Superman to come along.

I would guess they intentionally gave Mara a wardrobe that makes it look like she's a college student to emphasize her naivete. She was not particularly savvy early on, just smart.

Really. I only watch like 7 shows total and Breaking Bad and Dexter are done, I could take or leave The Walking Dead, sort of done with NCIS and Castle and Archer is on hiatus yet again. I hate to say it but Psych may have jumped the shark. I'm more of a movie guy anyway but you can only watch Troll 2 so many times.

Watch the first episode of the Netflix House of Cards.  If you're not sucked in just by Spacey's performance, I'll be surprised.
