(Denver Channel)   Colorado HS wanted to have a 'Murica Monday. School officials nixed the idea as being in poor taste. Changed to America Day. Naturally 'Muricans are having a problem with this   (thedenverchannel.com) divider line 124

Who doesn't have better things to do with their time than protest a decision by a local high school? Too many Americans have way too much time on their hands.

2014-02-04 08:26:55 PM
Several protestors with U.S. flags were outside the school on Tuesday morning

Turns out, they did had a 'Murica Tuesday.

Jensen said he believes the district woke a sleeping giant.

A giant with an IQ of 75 that is blind in one eye and has a persistant inner ear infection, but a giant nonetheless.

Only in America does this sort of thing create a controversy on both sides.  It'd be funny if it wasn't such a waste of time and energy.

FTFA: Fort Collins sophomore Jason Dunn said he feels that his rights are being taken away as a U.S. citizen.

In a public school, you don't have rights, son. Your parents do. And if your parents want to complain and protest, that is their right.

Yeah... This is supposed to be a school, right? Why would they sponsor an event that misspells the country?

"The administration didn't think it was inclusive to all students since we have a large amount of foreign exchange students ... there's a big backlash."

That's silly. 'Merica isn't an ethnicity, it's a state of mind. Who's to say the kid with the accent and a Stars & Stripes turban isn't from around here?

Yeah.

The students say:  "The Admin said we could not do it because it excludes other countries."  If true, the school is a bunch of idiots.
The Administration says:  "We did not want a day insulting America using demeaning slang."  If true, the kids are trolls, and the parents are too easily inflamed.

Since I cannot know... I say "meh."

So what do you do on "Murica Monday?
Blow up the school down the street and then bankrupt your school rebuilding it.

2014-02-04 08:54:15 PM
It seems like schools always have one day to mock/celebrate poor people. At our school we had Bubba day, which was a bit odd because there were a few kids at my school who were actually named Bubba (for some it was a nickname, but there was one whose actual name was Bubba). As it turned out, the Bubbas did happen to also be bubbas. I lived in a southern fishing town, and bubbas I think just referred to people from the poorer side of town who were "rednecks," although that might be a bit imprecise.

Well, he is a stupid bastard, isn't he?

"The students and parents who talked to me about this incident have asked to remain anonymous. The parents feared their children might face reprisals from liberal educators."

And trying his damnedest to start a fight where there's no need for one. I, for one, hope Fort Collins has record cold temperatures next Monday.

I'm also going to go on a limb and guess that Jeff Jensen is a crazy teabagger. For not allowing "'Merica Day" to be such a terrible slight that it would "awake a sleeping giant" is the same crazy talk that eventually led to the White House releasing the farking President's birth certificate.

Yeah, that's not at all what happened, but doesn't surprise me that the douche-tards at Fark would report it that way. :)

Living in America wouldn't every day be America day?

I live in Denver, typically listen to if not always agree with talk radio, and can tell you tell you this went national. I think you're right. I think it was a troll, and a great one.

Some people don't know that 'Merica is a pejorative, or at best neutral, word.

So "America Day" isn't sufficiently patriotic? Would if help if we sang the National Anthem in English while drinking Pepsi? Here, I'll start:

Don't they do that July 4th? or do they need more days to prove they love the country?

They should have just let them have 'merica day.  The ensuing derpnami over the 'liberal indoctrination in the public school system' would have been epic.

I fail to understand why President Obama releasing his birth certificate is any different from every other President since, say, Eisenhower, doing the same.Certainly birth records, be they family Bibles or letters or in modern times birth certificates, are part of every President's libraries and biographical collections.  Perhaps you could explain the difference? Difficulty: No ad hominems.

Could you point me to a youtube video of any sitting president releasing their birth certificate publicly, twice? Sure, their libraries have all kinds of silly shiat, but this didn't seem a bit much to you? I'm hoping you can see the distinction, no?

But, since you thought this kind of discussion was ad hominem material, <hominem>whatever source you source your shiat from is dumb and not to be trusted therefore 'Merica, you tard. </hominem>

You're wrong on this. To quote Tinker vs. Des Moines, "Students do not shed their Constitutional rights... at the schoolhouse gates."

However, nobody has  a Constitutional right to have a school-sanctioned event named what they want it to be named.

Instead of world hunger, climate change, war, income disparity, outsourcing of jobs overseas, the NSA, Guantanamo Bay, or healthcare reform, I think it's perfectly reasonable to devote a portion of your time being outraged over this.

Exactly. The libs ignore the fact that conservatives were howling for Eisenhower to prove that someone named "Eisenhower" wasn't a German-born Nazi.

And don't get me started on the FOX News outrage about the recent GOP presidential candidate born in Panama. That was awful!
