Welcome to Florida. where everyone is crazy and everyone has a gun.

Deputies said Williams told them the workers were being rude.

I'm pretty sure Emily Post would have something to say about gun manners, too.

Glad to see the guy is about to get a haircut, he could use one.

Geez dude. There's plenty of videos of girls trimming bushes on the internet. Go watch one of those.

I figured this would be a weird story about Brazilian waxing, but I was wrong.

Omg, old people are the worst when there's work going on somewheres, lol. I worked as a flagger/safety person on a jobsite last summer and there was this one retired man that was poking around the site nearly every day. My dad is also guilty of going around build sites in his neighborhood just to watch (he was a home builder for years before retiring)

Gee, let me guess. 60+ year old angry entitled white guy? -looks at mugshot- Yup.
Pretty much looks exactly like you would expect. Hopefully if we just give it a few years, the actuarial tables will catch up to this apparently very specific generation of insanely violent angry old white guys and we can go back to living in a (fairly) civilized society again.

I've kicked tree crews off of my property.  Three out of three visits in the past 15 years, they have smashed down my fencing, destroyed a hedge line, and have never chipped the fallen trees or limbs.  They make a mess and left it for me to deal with.

The last time, I stood there and watched, then stopped them when they started hacking trees off at ground level, leaving the mess behind.  Oh, they smashed the fence again, too.  They threatened to call the local Sheriff - I said, "Fine, let's get a deputy here to document the property damage."

I didn't bring out a gun, but my wife wanted to.

A close friend once threatened a crew with a shotgun, after they woke him up at 6AM.  He told them to come back later, or to come back with the police.

We live in a very rural area.  The Sheriff wouldn't be amused if they ever called his department.

Ya, because when looking at crime statistics, old white men clearly stand out as the problem segment in this country.

You're talking about line clearance crews. Those aren't real tree crews, they are contractors to the power company and not really answerable to the owners of the property upon which they work. The article is about a tree crew hired by the homeowner to work on her property. Not anywhere near the same type of situation.

And what isn't mentioned in the article is that the old man probably refused to stay back out of harm's way. I have no problem with people watching me work but they dang sure better stay out of the work area. Either that or he was trying to tell the workers how to do their jobs. I won't tolerate that, either.

"I dun shot 'em cuz I felt threatened. I thought I seen one of 'em reachin' fer a gun. Only turn out, it was a sody pop can. One uh them Coke cans, so I figgered he was a furriner cone to invade, an' steal our tree trimmin's an' shiat."

*turns to lawyer and grins*

"I dun sed it just like ya tol' me, din't I?"

maybe not the largest segment, but they are among the scariest. even the hardest gang members and criminals tend to have -some- moral boundaries, and usually at least some identifiable reason for shooting people, most often with some clear warning signs of intent to do so, they tend to show some restraint even if it is just through self-interest of not attracting undue attention, and even then they do shoot they usually just shoot each other.

old white guys with a tidy collection of both bottled anger and gadsden flags tend to have the alarming tendency to snap and shoot anyone, of any description, be it men, women, and even small children, anywhere, with no warning and no externally identifiable reason. that is disconcerting, as you realistically are not likely to get shot by any gang members or underworld thugs unless you go to the 'hood and try to buy crack or lose too much to a back alley bookie or something.
however, you or even your child can get shot by any random teabagger just mowing your own lawn or riding your bike through the neighborhood.
face it, whenever there is a completely inexplicable firearms incident without any identifiable justification to it -at all-, the mugshot looks the same pretty much every time.

Yeah, I think the old guy wanted to stand next to supervisor who is likely under or near the tree.  The supervisor knows what he is looking at and when to move, old dude is likely going to trip and die under a branch.

I have tried a hand at tree cutting, bil and I quit after one customer.  Bil got us over our heads, so no reason pushing our luck.  We did manage to bring down one massive oak between a bunch of other trees that was leaning towards the guy's neighbor's house, with only damage to his fence.  We did fix his fence.

The best part was when we had bil's younger brother high in the tree at his own request to take down the top and the guy suddenly got scared and called his dad and wife to tell them his last "I love you"s.  We still give him crap about that.

Did you sleep through the fiscal crisis?  Oh I forgot when old white rich men commit crime, it's just a bail-outable offense.  Goldman Sachs wouldn't piss on your chest if your heart were on fire.

P.S. I will be quietly killed for this post.

They wouldn't let him watch? If they are outside, they really don't have much of a choice.

Tree crew: You can't watch us.
Me (if I were so inclined to that sort of craziness): I'm just standing here in the street. Not watching you. I'm looking just to your left.
Me: I'm not watching you. I'm not watching you.

Some of us are guessing the guy kept insisting on being under harms way, causing the "If you don't stay back, you need to go inside" response from the tree crew.  Just because he is in his 60's doesn't mean he is acting like an adult.

The tree trimmers should have called The Police sooner.
