I guess they should've budgeted for strays when they put forth their bribe bid to the Olympic selection committee.

So they are going with full contact biathlon this year?

Last time it was played Finland took the gold in the team event at the 1940 Winter Games.  I think Simo Hayha won the individual gold, if memory serves correctly.

That's right, Jimmy. That good ol' lab is out at the farm now. No, we can't visit, it's too far away. We had a good time but now Choco is in a better place. You'll just have to trust this was for the best.

Stay away from the hot dogs.

The picture of him petting that leopard and speaking English from earlier just makes the whole thing another level of dark humor.

Especially the part where he basically admits that he didn't give a shiat about those leopards before the Olympics, but since we're in the area, hey, lets help their survival.

/Bond villain, he is.

If you haven't been paying attention, there's an outrage machine whinging over every thing that Russia does to prepare for the games. They have to make Russia look bad, or something.
I keep wondering who's paying for it.

2014-02-04 03:03:04 PM
Yeah right, that's what my parents said about our dog when I was about 6. She described how they went to see it at the "farm" and how it chased its tail and played with the other dogs. Years later my dad told me the truth.

Look for a Russian gay Krystallnacht once the olympics are over and the global press aren't eyeballing Russia as hard.

Thats totally and completely inhumane to the people who no longer get to enjoy the Canadians, especially the women who would no longer get to enjoy the Canadian men's extremely large penises.

Also.. EVERY NORTH AMERICAN CITY, TOWN AND VILLAGE removes stray dogs.

from the humane society web page.

"
56 percent of dogs and 71 percent of cats that enter animal shelters are euthanized. More cats are euthanized than dogs because they are more likely to enter a shelter without any owner identification.
 "

"It is estimated that approximately 3.7 million animals were euthanized in the nation's shelters in 2008. "

2014-02-04 03:07:54 PM
The dogs are being concentrated at nearby farms for fun and relaxation.

2014-02-04 03:08:22 PM
I hate to break it you you folks be we kill our stray animals here in North America as well.  We call it the SPCA and give people a chance to adopt them but they don't just release the ones who aren't adopted.

Ouch.  But, I agree with kvinesknow...  it's pretty characteristic of a third world country to see lots of stray dogs just wandering the streets and being a nuisance, so as cruel as it is I can see why the Sochi officials wanted to get rid of its stray dogs.  Beijing also rounded up all its stray dogs prior to the 2008 Olympics.

To be fair, I'd be fine with the owners of said dogs being rounded up as well.

2014-02-04 03:08:50 PM
In fact, the dogs patriotically volunteered for this.

in that case its probably because he wants them all going down on his farm, so to speak

2014-02-04 03:15:51 PM
"As far as I know, they have a special shelter and they catch them and do medical examinations as to whether they are ill or not."

The "medical examination" consisting of opening them up with a fillet knife and looking around inside, no doubt.

2014-02-04 03:15:53 PM
One day the dogs are there, the next day they've been edited out of all the photos.

2014-02-04 03:16:52 PM
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm once they pee in Sochi?

2014-02-04 03:17:28 PM
That farm is in a village called Potemkin, if I'm not mistaken.
